This counting book by Eileen Christelow is about 5 little monkeys who all get ready for bed and after telling their mama goodnight, they all start jumping on the bed. Then, one by one, they all fall off and bump their heads on the ground. Every time the mom calls the doctor and the doctor always says "No more monkeys jumping on the bed". But they still continue to do. It starts out with 5 monkeys jumping, then 4, 3, 2, and finally 1. And every single one of them fall off and bump their

Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed by Eileen Christelow is the first in her Five Little Monkeys series. This matches the classic rhyme with a very silly picturebook about mischevious monkeys that just don't learn! Perhaps the most popular and beloved picture book about head injuries ever!
This is great silly fun. The story shows the monkeys taking a bath, putting on their PJs, brushing their teeth, saying good night to Mama, ... then jumping on their bed a bit too wildly. Emphasiz More...

Most Americans are familiar with the popular nursery rhyme "Five Little Monkeys." Christelow takes this rhyme and illustrates it with cheery, lively colored-pencil illustrations, with a monkey mama and her five children. She opens the rhyme with a little bit of prose setup, as the monkeys prepare for bed -- then ends with a humorous illustration of mama jumping on her own bed, after the little monkeys finally fall asleep.

This counting book retells the classic nursery rhyme of the five little monkeys who jumped on the bed, falling off and bumping their heads one by one. Each time one monkey gets hurt, the doctor says “No more monkeys jumping on the bed” but the monkeys continue to disobey.
The illustrations in this book are whimsical in nature, reflecting the story. They help to illustrate what is happening in the storyline, and I really like that they are done with coloring pencils, since usually pict More...

I really enjoyed reading this book! I think it was most fun becasue as a child I loved the rhyme. Ihink this is a great childrens book becasue it reinforces concepts that children are most likely familiar with. Most kids will know the five little monkets rhyme/chant so putting it to a book to look a the monkeys jumping makes it interiging. It has a repeated pattern that is easy to follow that is also good for young children. Not only is there a repeated pattern but the backwards counting al

For a counting book I chose Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed by Eileen Christelow. I really like this book. I remember reading this book as a child and loving it. I think it is a good book to help with counting because it gives children a fun and creative way to learn to count. The children can relate to the crazy little monkeys because they are wild and playful just like children can be. I think the illustrations with the colored pencil look gives a fun monkey family that young children w

Here is another book that never gets old. The children in my preschool class cant seem to get enough of it! This book always has to be read more than once. What I love about this book is that it allows children to sing-along and practice their counting. The illustrations of this book brings this story to life and makes the children want to get up and bounce around like all the monkeys on the bed! Something in particular that I love about the illustrations is that each monkey has a different faci

Five little monkeys jumping on the bed, written by Eileen Christelow is a super cute counting book. Repeating the same phrase over and over again, but changing the numbers allows children to have repetition. Children can better remember context when it is fun! This book is so much fun to read, and can be turned into a song. Each page depicts a certain number of monkeys, "five little monkeys, jumping on the bed, one fell off and bumped his head, mama called the doctor and the doctor said, No

I love this book for basic counting because on the first page the illustration shows five monkeys and as a teacher I can ask the students to count the monkeys to make sure their are five of them. After one monkey falls off the bed and their are four left I can ask the students to predict how many monkeys are left jumping. Not only is it educational but it is also funny for children to see monkeys in PJs jumping on a bed. I also like the rhyming component in the book. The illustrations are simple

I think this a cute simple little book for counting. I think the author does a great job of delivering the message in the story. I like the rhyme in the story that catches the students attention. I think the illustrations are entertaining to the audience this story is aimed for in preschool to first grade. In this story the mother is tucking her five little monkeys in. They start jumping on the bed and one by one begin falling off. They keep disobeying until they finally listen to the doctor and

Aurora loves the audio book version. This is how we have overcome the carseat struggles (for more details on that see my blog). I tell her we are going to such and such place and does she want to listen to "Five Monkeys" in the car and she always cries out "Monkeys!" and gets in her seat just fine. Although that means that I have to listen to the story over and over again until we get there but it's not so bad especially compared to some other audio books (Corduroy and How Do

Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed by Eileen Christlow is a kid-friendly picture book that tells the story of five monkeys that tell their mama they're going to bed, then decide to stay up and jump on the bed. Each monkey falls off the bed, 1 by 1, and bumps his head, and after mama calls the doctor he always replies with: "no more monkeys jumping on the bed!" This book would be great for pre-schoolers, or primary (K). The illustrations in this book are bright colored and correspo

For a predictable picture book, I read "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed" by Eileen Christelow. I found this book to be predictable in a sense that it repeats the same lines of "little monkeys jumping off the bed, one fell off and bumped his head". I had already read this book to my class of preschoolers this summer and they absolutely loved it. I read it as a song and we would sing it together. I love this story because it is fun and it makes children laugh. The illust

This is a terrific book. Any book my three year old cousin likes to have read to her more than once is a winner in my book. She's memorized the story to the point that she can recite it even without the book nearby. And she loves the pictures. We have a great laugh and a whole lot of fun whenever we read this book. It's a book that's also been used at a summer reading program I volunteered at one year, and the students thought it was great. They were ages 5-8. This book would be a great addition

Very good rhyming story. What better way to teach math concepts with rhyming. The story has very bright colorful illustrations. The monkeys are always doing something interesting. The monkeys have human like characteristics. The monkeys brush their teeth, put on pajamas, and use the telephone. My daughter loves this story. When she first read it she just picked up on the rhyme. Now she is putting her fingers up and counting along with the story. I only suggest this book for a preschool aged grou

Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed by Eileen Christelow is an adorable and funny counting book. The colored pencil illustrations offer a large expression of emotion portrayed from the monkey's faces. First, five little monkeys get ready for bed, tell mom goodnight, but begin jumping on the bed. As the rhyme goes, "one falls off and bumps his head." This cute repetition continues until no more monkeys are jumping on the bed. Overall, this is a great book for kindergarden or first gr

this book was by far my favorite story as a kid and it is now a source of inspiration to me. Eileen christelow is an amazing kids books author and she knows how to keep building up enthusiasm until she surprises everyone at the end. This ironic book tells a real life story behind the fun and entertainment. The plain fact of kids not going to sleep could be the point of this story, other than being routy. Overall this is a great book that can be easilly understood by children of many ages.

Five Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed is about just what the title says. No explanation is needed! My kids loved this short but upbeat and fun book, especially my three-year-old who just laughed hysterically. While I liked it and all, I didn't laugh quite as hard as they did! It is a great book to read to give some laughs and read with drama. It is pure silliness that is fun for the young!

I think this book is really cute. Every little kid usually knows this story/song and so they can do it along with the teacher. The illustrations were pretty cute, not too bright, but subtle. The length is perfect since they don't do ten monkeys, it's not too long. Even the preschoolers and two year olds where I work really enjoy this book because they like to do it along with the teacher.

This is a cute, funny and predictable picture book. This is a book that I remember from my childhood as the rhyme of the text has stood with me over the years. The book depicts the the consequences of misbehaving that can be used as a teaching moment. However, it doesn't set the best example as it ends with the mother jumping on the bed.

My son has had this book before he could talk and for some reason it's still one of his favorite books. I just think the story line flows well and children could identify with everything that happens in the story. Which child does like jumping on the bed? Now we can do it and incorporate counting. Could depict the story line through "felt".

This is a wonderful story and I really enjoyed it. It can be a great bed time story. I would also use this story and read it to a child who was doing something that was unsafe and show them that when they do things that are not safe it is a possibility that they can get hurt. I love this children's story!

My pre-k class loved this book. They used to sing the song all the time. This book is good for teaching math as well because it starts from five and then a monkey falls off every time decreasing the total number of monkeys left in the bed. Children can try guessing how many monkeys will be on the bed next etc..

When this was given to my daughter I was doubtful, but I soon realized how terrific a book it is. Hands down my one and a half year olds favorite. We do motions with it and she now does them all as I'm saying the rhyme. This book is a very fun time at our house and it makes her want to brush her teeth!

Students will easily recognize this story and be able to independently read it. What I like about this story is the introduction. So yes, students will be able to read it, mostly from memorization, but you will also be able to assess whether they are actually looking at what they are reading.

It starts off with 5 little monkeys jumping on the bed. As the book goes on moneys fall and bump their head. The doctor tells them to stop jumping on the bed, but they don't listen. This results in more falling and bumping their head. It's a great book for counting backwards and to teach students that adults tell children things for reasons.

Eileen Christelow, Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed (Clarion, 1989)
This is where it all began, the first Five Little Monkeys book, and while I've never been a fan of the nursery-rhyme retelling books in this series, I have to admit this is actually my favorite of the lot, maybe because I sang this rhyme to my kid all the time when she was an infant. I'm sure you know what to expect here, and it'll fulfill your expectations grandly. You and the kids will have a ball with this on More...

This adorable story is excellent to help students review both counting backwards from five to zero, and subtracting one from numbers five and less. Students will enjoy this fun story and I encourage teachers to have their students act out this story, while it is being read!

This book is about the cute children’s rhyme about five little monkeys begin jumping on a bed. Then as each of them fall off mom must call the doctor. This is a great book for the classroom. I would use this book during our circle time for the toddlers.
