on a scale of one to five, i'd probably be stretching a bit to give this book a 2.5, but i'd still probably give it that, if only for the vibe that it tries (but fails) to put across. on a scale of what the stars mean when you hold the cursor over them, however, it gets two, just because "it was okay."
it's the story of a young girl (araminta) who lives in a big, supposedly spooky house with her aunt (tabby) and her uncle (drac, who sleeps upside-down in a tower with bats during th...more

what I like about this book is that there is a lot of picture that is funny. The first chapter of this story the character was talking about his brother that his brother is always bordering him,so every time he go to school he refused to com back to the house because he does not want his brother to bordering him

I really loved the artwork throughout this book. It was quirky, humorous and appropriate as well as creative for a chapter book.
I have to reserve judgement on the story itself until I read the second installment because I finally warmed up and began to like the characters during the last chapter. Up to that point, the main character came off as bratty and the situations were too opportunistic. For example, she talks about wanting to see a ghost and in one day (after searching for yea...more

This book was interesting,Araminta Spookie was the only child. She lives in a wonderful old haunted house, but her crabby aunt Tabby wants to move.Aunt Tabbyis determined to sell their house but Araminta has stop her! With the help of haunted suit of armor named Sir Horance,a ghost named Edmud, and a lot of imagination,Araminta hatches a plot for an Awful Ambush that is so ghoulish,it just might work!

OK, I cheated. Just finished reading the first chapter of the first book in this series. It's funny, not hilarious, but funny. If you like Angie Sage's books, you might like this Araminta Spookie series. It's for younger readers who can handle ghosts.
Readers will enjoy Jimmy Pickering's graphic design.

This is a delightful haunting book, full of ghosts, bats,
spiders, and extra-sticky strawberry jell-o. One of my
favorite dialogue:"Why yes, Miss Spookie, indeed I am a
ghost. The ghost of Sir Horace Harbinger of Hernia Hall, at your service."
