Holy smokes, this book is so cool and handy! Not only do I absolutely love the way it looks and feels, but it gives practical information as well. Perhaps the most important thing this book offers me is the break-down of all the different Chicago neighborhoods. It gives me loads of maps and resources. All of the questions I had that remained unanswered by humans and websites were answered in this book. Books are our future!

Springs ago, when I was making plans to move to Chicago, the NFT Guide assisted me in my apartment search(with its detailed neighborhood maps and helpful lists of local amenities)better than any Apartment People person could! Although it's slightly embarrassing that I still take it out in public, I do know my way around much better because of NFT!

Oh my gosh... you buy it for the maps. That's all there is to it. This is the BEST set of maps I've ever seen for Chicago. There is a best-of type guide in the back, which I really love, but really, it's all about the maps! It's so easy to use I lend it out to out of town visitors and they don't get overwhelmed and lost.
...did I mention the maps?

Back when I was all set to move to Chicago, I bought this book and spent hours poring over all the tiny area maps and descriptions so that I could find all the cool restaurants, etc. once I moved. I can't look at this book right now without feeling bittersweet regret... alas, alas...
I own this version and just bought the 2009 version for my library (for $7!!!). These are AMAZING and PHENOMENAL resources!!!
Super-helpful. My only complaint is that establishments aren't listed alphabetically in the back for quick reference, but then if they were this book would probably weigh 11lbs. Not very useful when you're scampering to and fro in this (super-awesome) city.

if you move to a new city, definitely check out the NFT guide. this book will always be on my "currently reading" shelf because it is like my bible. the best maps are found here.
Helpful in choosing a neighborhood into which one might like to move. If one were so inclined...
moving to a major city anytime soon?? a MUST!
Deep intensive research for NYC/CHG '08.
Great book about Chicago's neighborhoods
