Fear casts a long shadow....

IN A CITY RULED BY FEAR...

...a solitary figure shrouded in black walked the night, determined to awaken a terrified metropolis from the nightmare of crime. There was nothing -- no bullets, and certainly not legal technicalities -- that could deter the man they called Nemesis from his mission.

Deborah O'Roarke, an idealistic young prosecutor wagin

Yet another great NR work in the Night Tales series. Intense, dark, brooding, angsty, dramatic, and slightly paranormal. This last angle could've worked against the story, but it somehow made perfect sense, adding to the plot, instead of making it sound ridiculous and pretentious.

Loved the characters, especially the tension between Deborah and Gage. They had problems from the beginning, not everything about them and their relationship was black-and-white, and for us, lovers of the gray area, thi

The character interactions were all real, the mystery subtle, but parts of this were hokey. The vigilante was pure Batman/Bruce Wayne (except this one could turn invisible. really!) Set in Urbana? Why not either use NYC or some other East Coast city but with fictional characters and history or create some other city name. This felt too batman-y and comic book. Felt campy.

This book was kind of weird, with a hero who led a double life, as an ex-cop turned businessman and a super-hero of sorts, working at night in a mask protecting people and having the power of invisibility, then he meets ethical ADA Deborah( the sister of the heroine from Night Shift) and falls for her.
Deb believes in the law and feels the pull towards two men who turn out to be one and she doesn't know how to reconcile her job with the secrets the man she loves keeps.
The story moves too fast, w

Basically, Nora Roberts wanted to write BATMAN IN LOVE, only she didn't want to deal with Time-Warner over rights. So she created a superrich ex-cop masked vigilante of her own, Nemesis, who wears the Non-Union Canadian Equivalent of Will Eisner's The Spirit costume (trenchcoat, snap-brim hat, domino mask), has a variant on The Shadow's Invisibility Superpower, lives in the family mansion with his ex-con housekeeper

Night shadow is kind of like a follow-up from Night shift since the main character is Cilla O'Roarke's sister, Deborah. Deborah who has become a lawyer finds herself in the middle of a dilemma between what is wrong and what is right. She meets someone, Nemesis, a man from the shadows who is committed to protect the lives of those wandering in the night. Deborah is a bureaucratic lawyer so she believes everything must be done by the book, however when she meets Nemesis she begins to thing otherwi

The second in the series is my least favorite by far. This one follows Cilla's sister Deb and her vigilance to protect the city as a public defender, but she's not the only one working to protect the city. Nemesis is a superhero type prowling the streets at night and protecting the innocent, and of course, one night, he saves Deborah. Of course, Nemesis has an alter ego and that's Gage Guthrie, a billionaire philanthropist who used to be a cop.

Deborah is torn between the two and finds herself f

I so didn't enjoy this book. Holy Batman/Spiderman rip off. The dark masked avenger Nemesis does what the police won't and with a personal Vendetta is keeping the streets safe. He rescues the seemingly helpless ADA when she is caught by a thug on the street and falls madly in love with her. He keeps showing up when she is in danger. Around the same time she meets the eccentric billionare. How does she chose?!?!?yadayadayada. Heard this one before haven't you?!? Oh and its set in what appears to ...more

This sequel to _Night Shift_ was just as fun as the first though this novel has an added paranormal element. Deborah is working on a tough case with the DA office and she's running into some questionable characters that aren't too happy with what she's uncovering. She finds herself in a difficult situation and is saved by Nemesis, the masked vigilante that goes against everything that she believes in. Regardless of their varying beliefs, they find themselves drawn to each other. To make matters ...more

This is the second book to the Night Series by Nora Roberts. Content-wise - I was slightly more satisfied compared to Night Shift! The story sets off in the slums and alleys of Urbana, with a very disciplined public defender Deb and the business-man-by-day, Superman-by-night Gage Guthrie playing the leads to this plot. Though their approach is different - their target is the one and same person who is a Drug trafficker. (Carlos Montega) The story line can be summarized to a war of Ethics over Su ...more

Night Shadow (Book two in the series) was completely addicting. Is there anything that Nora Roberts can't write? I loved the superhero Nemesis and I loved the girl he fell in love with (Deborah). She's introduced in book 1, and is now a public defender in Urbana. Yup. Addicted. I'll be reading the entire series.

Short and sweet. A good read if you don't want to start a full relationship with a series or need a break from them!

Ne olu ...more

Loving this series

Take any Marvel hero and put him into a romance book and what do you get? A perfect escapist evening with a dark, brooding hero and a woman who has a mind and is not afraid to use it. I loved the twist this book has and it is the first of them that I have read, even though it is the second book in the series. Thoroughly enjoyable and definitely recommended.

The second installment of Nora Roberts Night Tales follows Deborah O'Roarke, now an assistant DA that works within the rules...what she doesn't count on is falling in love with the masked man, Nemesis, who will see justice done any which way. This thrilling romance is a page turner with a talented twist. Batman wishes he was as cool as this crusader!

Genre mashups can go in one of two ways. They can either be awkward. Or they can be a lot of fun. Superhero/Romance mashups are generally pretty good. They impose an emotional element that is often missing in superhero novels. Plus: the sex scenes are always funny.

I really enjoyed this one even though it it was a Batman clone. But it reminded me of a precursor to Eve and Dallas. Gage is a multi millionaire who is also Nemesis, fighting crime in the shadows. Deborah is an Assistant District Attorney, who is idealistic and determined. The story is intense and sexy.

I love her books. While they're mindless, they ar still totally entertaining and absorbing. In this tale of a fiesty attorney ,a vigilante and a,handsome, rich but edgy hero, the author's recurring theme of good vanquishing evil holds a few surprises along the way.

This book is completely unrealistic, but very fun. I never thought that I would enjoy a "super hero " love story, but once again Nora Roberts delivers. Super quick read, and a lot of fun, as long as you don't think too far into the unrealistic tendancies.

Her family were avid readers, so books were always important in her life. She attended a Catholic school and credits the nuns with instilling in her a sense of discipline. During her
