Barbara Ann is hoping to go on a school trip but her parents aren't sure if they will be able to afford it due to her fathers architect business losing clients. For the past year, every project they've bid on has gone to a new company whose blueprints are almost exactly alike. Realizing that it can't simply be coincidence, Barbara's father hires a bumbling detective who gets no where fast leaving Barbara with no choice but to take matters into her own hands.

This book was kind of a disappointment

Girls' formula mystery novel at its finest. Unlike Nancy's (or Judy's or the Dana Girls', or pretty much any other teenage female sleuth I can think of), though, Barbara's parents seem to hover a lot...Where's the independence? I thought that was a key ingredient in girls' mystery series in the 30s and 40s.
