Life After Death: The Burden of Proof
Deepak Chopra has touched millions of readers by demystifying our deepest spiritual concerns while retaining their poetry and wonder. Now he turns to the most profound mystery: What happens after we die? Is this one question we were not meant to answer, a riddle whose solution the universe keeps to itself? Chopra tells us there is abundant evidence that “the world beyond” ...more

The title was appealing
My expectations were not met with this book. It seems like the book is trying sell eastern vision of death to the people of Christan faith or the western world.
Deepak Chopra simply accepts everything that has been put offered by vedas or even Hindu mythology. Throughout the book keeps comparing the it with Christan version. Though he dose not mention of Hindu mythology any where except the Savitry story(Lady who wants to save life of her husband from God of death). Which runs though ...more

Maybe it's the prospect of "til death do you part" or maybe it's my looming 40 birthday, but I've lately been a little preoccupied with the afterlife, or I guess with my dark fears in the middle of the night that there IS no afterlife. When I bring it up, people usually confess visions of fluffy cloud heaven or insist that they're content to turn into dirt. "Hey, you'll be dead," they say, "You won't know!" Not terribly consoling.

If you're looking for metaphysical, mind-stretching greatness, you have to check this book out. In a nutshell, Life After Death is Deepak Chopra's take on exactly what happens when we die and the nature of our connection to the physical world.

An excellent, thought provoking book. It's one where I felt that if I could really grasp all the concepts it would be life changing.....I plan to read it again in the future and hopefully take in more of the information. Even still, it was intriguing and inspirational.
Uggh. This book was painful. I don't see why Deepak is such a big name. The book was just a mixing of stories that were trying to prove a different spirtual point in each chapter. The book follows a version of a famous tale about a man trying to cheat death. That was about the only part of the book that was enjoyable.

A thought provoking, fascinating book. Deepak Chopra pulls insights from all the world's spiritual traditions and life-after-death experiences. I like his general assertion that the world of spirit isn't somewhere else, but right here, in the same space we inhabit; it just vibrates at a higher frequency that we usually can’t see, much like radio waves coursing through the air that we don’t detect. I also like his general conclusion; that after death what the souls sees and experiences is large...more
He shares my views/hope that other unseen dimensions exist and quantum physics is coming close to demononstating the possibilities.

This book is intensely interesting. I picked it up because I was reading a lot about near-death experiences. The stories in here are extremely interested and the philosophical insights are really exceptional.
It seems like we get a good comparison of some of the Eastern and Western views and in many cases we're challenged to think outside of both -- but it doesn't feel preachy or is if Deepak Chopra is trying to change anyone.

whether you are a believer, a non-believer, or simply open to new ideas, this book offers multidimensional insight not only into the mystery of life after death, but of life during life! deepak chopra suggests that since nothing in the physical world can adequately explain the essence of our soul, its creation, existence, and advancement, we need to look beyond the self-imposed physical world into the expanded boundaries of consciousness for answers. he suggests that every level of existence i...more
I love this guy! He is so intriguing. I have seen him on TV and always thought what he said made sense. So I bought this book... my first Deepak Chopra book. I feel that he has many important things to say, but uses long confusing sentences when he could have easily gotten away with a simpler one. I found myself rereading sentence after sentence. Its not that the vocabulary was difficult, its just that some of the wording can be a bit convoluted. Here is an example.. picked out of the book...

Some of this stuff is way out there and kind of mind-blowing. But very very fascinating. Being the skeptic that I am, I can't claim that I'm buying into everything he says. But I do like the idea behind a lot of these thoughts. And they are based on a wide range of different areas, some including: Vedic philosophy, quantum physics, psychology, and neuroscience.

Persuasive yet unfulfilling to those of us raised in Western religious traditions. Dr. Chopra shows us similarities between the Vedantic view of the afterlife and modern science. So it makes sense that the energy of individual souls has existed forever, therefore can never be destroyed. However, the appeal of the Christian (and Islamic) versions of heaven is strong -- I WANT to be reunited with my deceased loved ones, all of our personalities intact and ready to spend eternity together. I suppos...more
A good portion of this I heard in-person when I attended a 3 day workshop with D Chopra at the Omega Center in Rhinebeck NY. This is not a book that I listen to once and I'm finished. This is one that I need to listen to many times, like the Book of Secrets, because altho it's easy to understand while he's reading it - I really want to retain a higher percentage of the information than I would typically retain.
No time to comment in full right now.
In short, it eased my fears of what may lie on the "other side" and allowed me to embrace the concept that this life is but one brief beautiful moment in the endless travels of my infinite soul. Wow, did I just say that out loud?

As someone who isn't very religious or spiritual, I thought this was a compelling book. Life After Death explores Hindu spirituality and concepts such as planes of existence. Chopra's belief that death is just being a stopping point on an endless soul journey is comforting.
THE BOOK IS A MUST READ. CHOPRA'S HAS THE ABILITY TO SHEAD LIGHT ON THE AREAS WHERE METAPHYSICS AND PHYSICS ARE SAYING THE SAME THING YET INDIVIDUALLY THEY SEEM TO BE WORLDS APART. i PARTICULARLY LOVED THE CHAPTERS CONCERNIMNG THE AKASHIC RECORDS(THE MIND FIELD)
A friend recommended this to me when I was struggling with the concept of death and dying. Maybe it's because I was open to the 'what's next' concept but this book resonated with me so much and calmed some of my frustrations. Highly recommend.
This book is not for those who want to read about "light tunnels". Of course that its flavor is of eastern origin considering the author's cultural background. This makes it valuable and enriches our comprehension of this most interesting concept.
Good read! I thoroughly enjoyed reading Deepak Chopra's "Life After Death: The Burden of Proof." In this book he intertwined a little story along the way which gave the overall read a pleasant feel as he covered his ideas about what happens to the spirit after the body dies. This was my first real peek into early Sanskrit as well as other varieties of belief systems making the overall study intriguing.
Interesting book offering Chopra's own views and other's on the topic of what happens to us after death. The book chapters switch back and forth with the retelling of a Hindu religious story which expounds on Chopra's views.
I like listening to Deepak Chopra so I had high hopes in reading this book. I felt the book was somewhat superficial... like "Chopra Light". Perhaps this won't be so for others but it did not speak to me.
I actually read this book after Life After Life. It wasn't as appealing or as convincing. Had I read it prior to Life After Life, I may have liked it better. Given the two, I would pick this one up last.
Took away all my fears of the afterlife and was the first book on my path of awakening. Very dear to my heart. This brings in all of Deepak's philosophies but from the angle of the afterlife.
Another great read for someone who wishes to know the mysteries of life after death. A fascinating journey that will take you to beyond yourself, your life and into the universe and back again.
An interesting look at consciousness from all angles, including if/how it survives after the death of the physical body. I haven't read a lot of Chopra's work, but I might have to read a bit more now...
Thought provoking discussion of ideas about the nature of consciousness from an Eastern cultural perspective. Also a lot of interesting stories about people who have had "near death experiences" or other types of paranormal visions. Very relevant to anyone who is interested in the fullness of living as well as the ideas of the "hereafter."
A great book...one that I will always remember. A particularly nice feature is the listing of sources that influenced DC at the back.
This is a very interesting book. Think I will have to read a few more times with my "western mind" to grasp the concepts..

Very good book. I like reading his books, because they are so readable. --From A Reader's Journal, by d r melbie.
There were some interesting ideas in this book; many that I agree with but my mind just kept wandering. I just could not stay focused on this book so I'm calling it done. I got about half way thru it.
