This introduction to the library and book selection is fun but missed the mark for me a bit. The rhyme and repitition isn't regular enough to be really enjoyable, or something that students will join in with during a read aloud. I did like that it addressed the five finger method book selection for determining difficulty, but I don't think the explanation is clear enough to use after reading the book alone. Further discussion and details are needed.
This book ONLY has value as a library teaching tool. However I found it very helpful in my first week running the library once our school district decided to flush all of the teacher-librarians. 1st and 2nd graders loved acting out the chant. Some of the rhymes were a bit awkward, but I think that only bothered me. Time will tell if the lessons in using shelf markers and book care actually stick, but it was fun.
