I once went to a Nick Bantock reading where he boasted of his success in the face of his teachers of English literature who had, to put it nicely, not encouraged him. This reading, and I suspect a large part of the book tour, was a proud snub in the face of all that. He was intent upon getting the message out that his teachers had told him that he couldn't write and, boy, had he shown them. Having read the first book of the series, I would have proudly stood to his defense, in full agreement....more

WOW. I loan these books out as a set (six books) because there is no other way to read them. Jory is of the opinion that they are perfect for reading as a couple and I agree.
These books are written in epistolary style, with the letters actually folded up and put in envelopes. You take them out to read them. It gives me the best feeling of sneaking a look at someone else's correspondence and falling in love with two new people. These books are so. good. Passionate and sexy and funny and beau...more

This is book three in the Griffin & Sabine Trilogy. They are back in their homes after their failed attempt to meet. He is making peace with his past and lost loved ones but a shady character enters into their world, demanding to see their letters and cards. He pushes into Sabine's life and threatens her family. This book, though it states a conclusion in the title, isn't the end. Griffin and Sabine decide to meet halfway, in Alexandria, at a mythical gate between worlds. The next tril...more

i'm sure a lot of fans hate the cliff hanger - it's like a teaser pregnant with a sequel promise. i guess this is the way he keep the intrigue level high, but we can't help the question, 'what was that?' many will feel they were being taken for a ride - but i'm still in love with the tactile aspect of this story - opening letters from someone - instead of opening bills and bank statement from something - not to mention the lush paintings as illustration.

I loved the detailed artwork in these books and the fact that you have to actually take the letters out of envelopes glued on the pages to read the correspondence between Griffin and Sabine. Kind of like a lift-the-flap book for adults. I always felt like I was intruding on their privacy. I only wish the books were longer.

More of what I love. These books are really great - for children and grown folks. The collection or each book given individually would make great Valentine's Day presents or even wedding and anniversary presents for adults. For children, these are great birthday presents.

I was given this series years ago when there were only 3 in the series. They were in part responsible for creating my love of books - not reading, but books themselves. They are visually beautiful, creative and fun to look at, but take you on a journey as well.

This is the final book of the trilogy. Only somewhat as satisfying as the other two. I think the author tried to create some tension by introducing a third character and not very successfully in my opinion.

Not sure that I really understood what was going on but the pictures were very special. I think what I liked the most about these books was sensation of reading personal letters, cards, and postcards.

Sometimes I find these books almost frustratingly tantalizing, because there's so much story that you have to sort of make up for yourself. But they're completely gorgeous and always leave me dreaming.

I bought it when it came out so I'd have the complete set, but was disappointed in the story once again (see review of Sabine's Notebook). The art makes all three worth owning, though.

The third in the first trilogy. Did not explain the break in the space-time continuum hinted at at the end of the second book, but I have learned to go along with the mystery of these books.

Beautiful books, with a really interesting format. For those other romantics who enjoyed The Time Traveler's Wife, this short series is a must-read.

I ADORE these books! The entire Trilogy is so inventive and imaginative and wonderful...especially for someone like me who lives to write letters.

I didn't like how this ended. It left me confused. I'm not sure what to think. It's not finished.

A strange and yet perfect conclusion to the series. It's over - but it's not resolved.
