people who like fun action novels
If you want drama about a war-torn middle eastern country, or hollow romance, don't read this book. If you want to read about guns, boozing, assassinations and good food, then this is the book for you. Not to mention the toughest, sexiest female lead character I've ever read about.
Anthony Bourdain writes a good action novel. I didn't even know this was a sequel to "Bone in the Throat" (since my library never has it), and it was still great!

I am trying out Bourdain's fiction, and I am quickly learning that I prefer his non-fiction. It's not that the fiction is bad, I just don't enjoy the mobster scene he writes about. And the langauge and sex references seem like they are "placed" rather that really necessary. His food details are fun, though.
I adore his non-fiction, for being gritty, funny, honest, and even respectful upon occasion (only of other cultures and other cooks, though, the rest of us can go to hell and that'...more

Moves some characters that had supporting roles in "Bone in the Throat," so the nostalgia is nice and the characters are much more vividly drawn this time, but it's still not a great read. The narrative plods along for a while and then suddenly leaps to what fees like the climax--my first thought was, "am I missing a few chapters here?"--and then mopves on to what feels like the beginning of a following book.

I enjoyed Bourdain's memoir, Kitchen Confidential, so much that I decided to give one of his novels a shot. It's not bad, but it is exactly what you'd expect: fairly generic pulp crime with lots of details thrown in about food. I wouldn't recommend buying it, but if it found its way into your hands, there are worse ways you could blow the few hours it'd take to read it.

Anyone who needs a reality check... life is GOOD
Tony takes you on a tour of beaches and gangsters and sun and murder.... with some seriously hot descriptions of good food in the bargain...you can feel the sand in your toes, the snap of the shrimp on the barbie and the waves breaking on the shore...escape!

Fiction, guns'n'stuff. A retired hit man who just wants to hang out on an island and smoke pot (and, apparently, cook lots of fine food) finds his past catching up with him. Weak plot and nonexistent character development, but the dialogue is snappy.

Interesting book. Fun, easy read, but nothing really great about it. I wasn't impressed with the prose or the story. The only part I found fascinating was when he wrote about food. Makes sense for the guy who wrote Kitchen Confidential.

This was one of the best escapist books I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Ex-CIA assassins who "go bamboo" in the Carribean and lead a life of luxury, debauchery and complete relaxation.... It's like a romance novel for guys :)

Good Pulp Fiction from Bourdain. I needed a break from the hustle and bustle; so, I sat and read. This book was a first for me. I didn't just read it in a day; I read it in one sitting.

Fantastic ending to Bone in the Throat. The characters are so perfectly fleshed I hated to see the last chapter arrive. Wiseass crime comedy at it's very best.

eh...Bourdain is much better at autobiography. His natural humor does not come through in the fiction, unfortunately.

starts out as flip as Bone in Throat, but takes a sudden hard right into Hamlet. same as BinT, beach-towel skimmer

Good, but not as good as the other Bourdain fiction Bone in the Throat. Still a fun read.

Not nearly as good as his non-fiction, but vaguely amusing nonetheless.
