This is good, predictable work.
The term predictable is probably a weak choice. I mean it is a solid example of hardboiled detective fiction. The action, the anti-hero, the dead woman. I love following a character like Philip Marlowe. Reading one these books is just like watching a classic movie to me. Its an original, it was stories like this that was the template for future books.
