This was my first Jerome Charyn book, and I was blown away by his writing style. I haven't read anything else like it, and am at a loss to describe it. Almost poetic at times, but in a staccato way. The police are corrupt for sometimes good reasons, and often likable. The story has a sort of wistful tone, but is also quirky and violent. I have to go back and read earlier titles, because many things were referred to from the past (though "Montezuma's Man" worked on its own). I really enjoyed spen ...more
