This was my first Jerome Charyn book, and I was blown away by his writing style. I haven't read anything else like it, and am at a loss to describe it. Almost poetic at times, but in a staccato way. The police are corrupt for sometimes good reasons, and often likable. The story has a sort of wistful tone, but is also quirky and violent.
