I like books about people who overcome terrible childhood experiences and turn their lives around. And I like books about children in foster care who find love and acceptance, or books about teachers who manage to break through to a special-needs child, or books about an adult whose life was enriched, not destroyed, by unusual experiences in childhood. I find these books inspiring.

This was a great read. Although it tackled some very tough issues, it wasn't a testing read and simply left me wanting to read more. It kept a good pace and was well written in terms of being able to sense what the characters were going through. It was difficult to put this book down!
This is Cathy's third book, but it's set before the other two, back when they first started fostering whilst trying to start a family of their own. Dawn was their second foster child, and she really opened their eyes to how some children have suffered, and the kind of trouble they get in to trying to relieve what they feel about themselves. I read this in one sitting because the writing style is just so easy and flows through so well, you almost don't realise so much time has passed because you ...more
This book i really enjoyed reading from start to finish. I read it because I knew it was to do with self harming and I'm a self harmer so I was interested to read about how this girl dealt with her feelings.
In the book the foster carer Cathy who looked after the girl Donna for a while when she was a teenager talked about her behaviour and how she did her cutting and the emotions she felt I could relate to this but she had a tough upbringing her Mum had a lot of problems herself but the end...more

The Story: Dawn is rejected by her parents and is left at the social care institution. She is then taken in by her foster parents Cathy and John. They treat her as a daughter but little do they know that, Dawn is going to be hard to handle. One night, Cathy awakes to find Dawn standing over her baby, Adrian's cot. This freaks them out and a nightmare is about to start. They know something is wrong with Dawn and try to help but it's not going to be easy as Dawn's past is kept secret from them. "...more

This is my first of Cathy Glass's. It took me less than 12 hours to finish reading this book, I was so hooked up to it but unfortunately not for long. Gradually the story got so flat and the ending was predictable.
I got bored with Glass's leniency towards Dawn whenever she played truant, or went back home late on nights she was allowed out. Basically, it was boring. I just want to finish for the sake of knowing what really happened to Dawn in her childhood. Period.

I love Cathy Glass as an author she is an amazing woman too do the job that she does, this book really touched me I cannot believe what this poor girl had too go through, it makes me look at my own daughter and want too wrap her in cotton wool, am glad there was a happy ending for Dawn where she could move on with her life and try and get back what she has lost because off the pain and hurt she had been caused x
This was my 2nd Cathy Glass book... and I keep waiting for happy endings... as she has been such a successful carer... but I guess those would be the "boring" stories... so far the books I have read have been extreme cases. I still find them interesting (and heartbreaking) I didn't put the book down... read it in less than a day and still managed to work my regular 8 hours...
This book was a very good book. I read it very quickly and enjoyed it. Made me cry at the end but I am known for crying in books all the time. This book really makes you think about how you can help someone become a better person. Just by being their friend or even giving them a smile can make a person's day and help them become everything they can be. A very inspiring book.
Okay, second to last book I had waiting that I should have reviewed when I read it (3+ months ago).
I don't remember details of this because it was so long ago and I read a lot but I remember the girl Glass talked about vaguely and I do remember that Glass is her normal non-biased, well spoken/written self.
I've read a good number of books by Glass and I plan to read every one (except for the self-help, I don't do self-help).

This is the second book that I have read of Cathy Glass's. Heartwrenching, but a book that needs to be written. Her books are raw, sad and deeply moving. A read for people living in bubbles to wake up and see what goes on in the world.
A very good book by a great author, i read this book with a few days as was keen to finish as i like to know how people in these situations cone out from the other side and also it shows that fostering is a very hard but very rewarding job to do.
iv just finished this book , and omg u never know these days whats going on behind closed doors, this woman cathy glass i will say it again is amazing, to open her heart and house ,,,,
I read this book in about 24hours. It was very well written and a very interesting story about fostering children. If you are ever thinking about fostering this will really inspire you.
Horrifying but true, I find it terrible how bad social services are to people who are taking in children to care.
Thankfully this story has a happy ending!

This was the second book by Cathy Glass I have read, and I definitely didn't like it as much as Damaged. Once I got a little over halfway done, I really enjoyed reading Cut. However, the beginning felt really slow to me. I might have some bias towards that though, because I've been reading a lot of action packed fiction. I gave this book 3 stars, but I'd say it's more a 3.5. I definitely still plan on reading more of Cathy's books in the future.

Another worth reading - Cathy Glass should be awarded for her fostering like so many other foster parents out there.
An interesting book about the foster care system (in England) and cutting...
Great Book. God Bless Cathy Glass for helping all these children.
Alana is reading this and so I want to read it too :p
Can relate somuch to this little girl.
Not Dramatic. But can you expect a book this kind to be dramatic!!
Very sad, makes you cry but good
Fostering is no easy task.
Another moving book from Cathy on fostering a very disturbed child.
Another very good book by a great author (and real life foster carer who is taking from her own experiences (names changed for privacy)). This one was definately very creepy.. The girl in this story although yo might see her as a creepy child who you would not leave alone at any time or, indeed, leave alone with a newborn baby... I won't spoil the story but the things this child has gone through its not a surprise she was who she was at that time.
I really enjoyed reading this- if ''enjoyed'' is the right word to use given the themes handled in the book. I'll admit, I was annoyed by a lot of things which Cathy thought, which is more than likely just due to being able to relate a lot to Dawn. It was an extremely gripping book, and I found the characters easy to like.
I was a little disapointed in this book. I had expected more of it, but... It was okay enough, not one of the best books I've read, but not amongst the worst...
