about a girl trying to make her way in gold-rush Denver after her adoptive parents have died and she discovers her biological mother is a fallen woman. Liked the setting and the characters, explores lots of interesting themes (probably better for 13-15 rather than 9-12 age range)

I didn't really know what this book was about, and I probably shouldn't have been reading it in the 6th grade. I might like it more now, I guess.

This book is REALLY good, even though at first it was a liiiiittle weird.... but it had a really good ending, I though.

It wasn't at all like i was expecting...but in a good way. The early days of prostitution, i suppose.

This is a really good book for 13-16 year old people. It has a good strong plot. 8)

This book takes place in Colorado in the late 1800's - and includes many pivotal scenes set in a house of ill repute - something I am doing in my current wip - although my setting is different (1920 and in the Northwest). The author is masterful at choosing just the right detail to suggest the bigger picture. Very well researched. A spunky and appealing main character who triumphs against all odds. Third person.

Interesting historical novel by an author whose books I've always enjoyed. In 1878 Colorado a young girl, whose adoptive parents are dead, sets out to find her real mother. Denver at this time was a city of relatively few women, many of whom were prostitutes, and discrimination against certain ethnic/racial minorities. How this girl rises above all this is a great story. Recommended.
