Into the Tunnel

3.5 of 5 stars 3.50  ·  rating details  ·  2 ratings  ·  1 review
The diverse essays in this volume are an attempts to guide the reader through the prolixities and perplexities of William H. Gass's the Tunnel, perhaps one of the most significant American novels published since World War II. The Tunnel both defies and demands commentary, and will be read as a landmark of postwar American fiction.

definitely worth reading this book if you're interested. good to read what other people have found in the book, and many of the essays do a good job summing up the kinds of critical reactions the book has received. and several essays take a single way of looking at the book and amplify it so large that you see just how dense different aspects of it are. dense and rich and worthy of study rather than critique (on either side) and that's a tone that many of the essays pull off well.
