This book is the story of the March 2008 epic collapse of Bear Stearns, the maverick Wall St. investment bank that had been around for 85 years.

The interesting thing about "Bear Trap" is that it is written by Bill Bamber who was the head of Equity Derivative and Commodity Structuring with the firm. It is an insider's perspective on what happened and why.

However, because Bamber was an insider, I got the impression throughout the book that he was a little less than forthcoming with regard to the

As an "average, normal," hardworking American who pays a mortgage, uses the banking system and tries to invest a little money, but doesn't really understand the whole banking, investing, market system and doesn't care to take a Finance 101 class this book provides good insight and a personal perspective on a seemingly improbably fall of an icon of a company. This book was really an easy read and while it is a bit scary I recommend it for people wanting answers to questions.

This book's timing is just as amazing as the story told by this insider, Bill Bamber. We now know that fall of the legendary investment bank 'Bear Stearns' is only the tip of the iceberg! This story is a stimulating trip into the world of the big investment banking institutions, with true life drama and fascinating insight - like the prediction or warning that similar institutions Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch will fail - have you seen the news lately? One word - Extraordinary!

This book was written for laymen trying to understand what has happened to cause the finiancial crisis we are in.
It is a good description about the underlying transactions that are at the root of the problem we now face.
The author does an excellent job of capturing the mood of everyone involved
and uses a nice mix of facts, plots, and explanitions of what was happening.

Kind of boring, honestly. Might have been more interesting had I not known most of it.
