I was in trouble at the library for being late to pick up a book on hold. The librarian on duty is a bit of a dragon, but past conversations with her have revealed that she has one soft spot: Stephanie Laurens. Knowing my library record might depend on it, I plucked A Rogue's Proposal off the paperback rack. I'd not read any of SL's Cynster books, and this is #4 in the series. But no matter, it was s shield with which to face her fiery wrath. It worked. A small smile came to her hardened mouth a

I loved the beginning of this story. The premise was appealing. The equestrian backdrop was richly enjoyable, and it was fun reading the heroine posing as a boy.
Sadly, after the heroine is deflowered, the story immediately jumps to London. Goodbye all the aspects that made this story enjoyable.
After the beginning of the midway point of the story, it drags on miserably to the end.
Painstakingly, chapter after agonizing chapter, we're taken through the world More...

Another engaging Cynster story, 5 stars! All the heroines in this series are strong-willed but Felicity/Flick is the most innocent. She is very likeable, open, honest, and strong but not the domineering type. She's a country lass who doesn't swing with the crowd of the ton, and cares nothing about their social norms and mores. She handled Demon really well, without her realizing it. The mystery side of the story is dragging at times because it seemed they're on a wild goose chase but somehow the

Harry Cynster has run away from London, trying to escape his imminent marriage. He isn't in love with anyone, but he's the next oldest in a family that is known for their propensity for love matches. But he's not ready yet. So he runs to his country estate and immediately sets eyes on Felicity Parteger who is running around dressed as a boy and has gotten hired on as a stable boy at Harry's estate.

Wow, so I totally thought I'd read this book before. I purchased it (yes, purchased it!) for the train ride back to Boston from Philadelphia. Of course, it now turns out that I'd read another book by the same author about the same family that also involved a sub-plot involving cheating at horse racing, which I guess explains why the names and characters seemed so familiar. So I actually had no reason to feel mildly disappointed the entire time I was reading this book...

Another great story in the Cynster series. This one involves Demon and his romancing and wedding of Felicity Parteger. Felicity grew up as a ward to the General next door to Demon's Country farm. She is his match in EVERY way and makes him realize it before she agrees to become his bride. They also have to solve a mystery of who is fixing the horse races and save Felicity's 'brother', the Generals son, who got involved and now is hiding to save his life. Great action and romance, but to me,

This is probably my favourite in the Cynster romance novels, simply because I like the heroine so much. Felicity has known Demon (our male lead) since she was seven years old. She fell in love with him at 10 but has been hiding it every since. Now she is twenty and a horsing scandal is going to threaten the happiness of her family so she goes under cover at Demon's stable. Demon of course recognises her almost right away and agrees to help her. Romance ensues.

Stephanie Laurens has never been one of my top authors for historical romance but I have read many of her books. It's not that her books are mediocre -- I wouldn't read them if they were. They ARE good. None of her books, however, jump out at me and say 'favourite'. Although that may be, I have to say this is my favourite Stephanie Laurens book. There were many sweet moments and I love how the title characters were known as Flick and Demon. I must say, for most of the book it hardly felt like re

Ah, another of the Bar Cynster gets married. They are a larger-than-life, devastatingly handsome lot and marvelous heroes. I am totally enthralled with Ms. Laurens ability to weave a marvelous story and still continue the family saga, which seems to have no end of heroes and heroines caught in compromising situations.

Someone told me that the first book of the Cynster series was the best (Devil's Bride) and then they went down hill. I was starting to believe that until I read this one. I was hooked quickly and enjoyed the story a lot, although I don't think it was as good as Devil's Bride it was very good and easily my second favorite of this series.

Once again romance is well and truly alive as Stephanie has us falling in love with her characters and getting lost in the old gentlemanly ways that was once, the only socially acceptable way to woo a lady. Love it.

the 4th in the Cynster series did not hold my interest. The plot involves horse racing/fixing and I find the topic boring. The interplay entre' the characters just was too predictible for my taste

Enjoyable but felt the story was dragged out a bit; could have been a novella. Also find annoying when both characters are 'in love' but won't admit to each other causing misunderstandings.

Horse race fixing intrigue. An enjoyable read, albeit not totally believable. I like that the male and female characters are both strong, and our heroine is not swept away by our handsome rogue.

What I really like about the Cynsters is that they don't dally if they like a woman. Once they like a lady, they will set their minds to marry the said lady. Demon Cynster is no exception, even when he was at first, opposed at the idea of marriage. Not once he meets Flick. Or Felicity.
The story is just so-so but I enjoyed it, nevertheless. Not much of adventure. And it's definitely interesting that Demon could hold his demon back from ravishing the innocent Flick like his previous memb More...

Good enough to make me want to get acquainted with the rest of the Bar Cynsters.

Heading to his countryside stables to try to escape fate, Harry "Demon" Cynster instead runs smack into it. Felicity "Flick" Parteger is disguised as a stableboy in order to try to find the organizers of a race-fixing syndicate and help out her cousin Dillon, who is in deep trouble.
Flick is a wonderful heroine, completely open in everything and purely genuine. While in Newmarket, Demon is wonderful, but I grew very frustrated with his actions and behavior while in More...

Oh another Cynster marries, thankfully he realizes this by chapter two. And, unlike Devil his older cousin, Demon was willing to fall and admit to falling by the end of the book. Love Flick for her willingness to follow danger and leave Demon to catch up, not to mention her quick friendship with twins. And yes I know this review may not help unless you LOVE the Bar Cynster's and their entire crazy, overbearing, protective, possessive family members, including the beautiful, darling, amazing,

Part of my re-read of the Cynster series. Harry is a fun but introspective hero, but I didn't get Flick/Felicity. Laurens tried a little to hard to make her the "big sister" with Dillon, and it seemed forced and retread of Patience in #2. The usual mystery dragged on too long and after 4 Cynsters in succession, the intimacy scenes are past boring, heading into annoying. I don't remember that being the case before, so maybe it is better to read one a year!

Pretty good. Didn't drag too much. I have the rest of the Cynster's and all of the Bastion to read yet.
