I re-read the Cynster series about once a year. This one is the third in the series and it features Richard Cynster. All of the boys have nicknames, Richard's is the "Scandal that Never Was." He is a bastard, but has always been acknowledged as his father's son. Now, however, he has learned that his biological mother left him something when she died almost thirty years ago. On his way to her husband's house, Richard meets an enchanting woman in a graveyard. It's Catriona Hennessy, the More...

This is not quite as good as some of Stephanie's other books but it was still a good read.

I like the desriptions of the hero and heroine of Scandal's Bride. Richard, aka Scandal, has been summoned to the north by his mother's family. Richard's mother has been dead for many many years and now her husband has died and Richard is in his will. Richard, ever curious, arrives to find that there is someone else who is in the will. Catriona, the Lady of the Vale. Catriona was the ward of the l More...

After being frustrated with Vane's story, I found Richard/Scandal's story quite refreshing. I thoroughly enjoyed it although other readers weren't able to appreciate the semi-paranormal theme here, but I did, and I was all for it. Given Catriona's domineering attitude, always used to running her own show, Richard is right up her alley. Stephanie Laurens's writing is excellent, she vividly described the characters feelings, the setting, and how compromise can boost a relationship. Love scenes are More...

I got this through my library as an ebook. I read this book all last night and a few hours this morning and was done before 10 AM. I loved reading Scandals story and meeting his wife. The story wasn't as great as the last two but in no way bad! A little more typical is all. They mystery was good but not unpredictable. I loved The Lady concept and the concept of Catriona being so strong but realizing that a man won't weaken her but make her stronger. And Scandal was the patient understandin More...

SCANDALS BRIDE 10-22-10

After reading the background blurb on author Stephanie Laurens I'm a bit torn. She started out her working career as a CANCER RESEARCH SCIENTIST! Now, as happy as I am that she has written some  romances that i have enjoyed it is a mixed blessing that she retired from being a research scientist!
Well, on to the book... This is the 3rd novel in the Cynster family line of romances. The Cynsters are a proud strong line of family that is one of the mos More...

This was an interesting read, but there are too many problems with it to give it a higher rating. The main problem is the characters: they just aren't human beings. The good guys (Catriona, all the Cynsters) are all flawless super-humans, the bad guys are all caricatures. For me, a romance just doesn't work unless the characters, including the secondary characters, but especially the main ones, are actual humans, with flaws, self-doubt, and are capable of making mistakes, even huge ones. The de More...

Scandal's Bride is the third book in Stephanie Laurens' Cynster Series. I started this book several months ago and just couldn't get into it. A couple of things bothered me...first, after reading books one and two in the series, you learn that Richard Cynster is the illegitimate son of the Duke of Ives. This isn't a big deal normally and clearly not Richard's fault, however, the knowledge that he is the Duke's second son and that the Duke and Duchess of Ives are featured in book 7.5 really turne More...

After going through the first two Cynsters books, I'd have to say that Scandal's Bride is, by far, the most enjoyable read out of three Cynsters I've read.

If you're familiar with Laurens' books, you will know that her stories are mostly set during the 1800's, featuring strikingly handsome, warrior-like men (not that I have any complain whatsoever) and the classic DID (damsel-in-distress). But make no mistake, the heroines are not the weak, air-in-the-head type.

Catriona, by fa More...

Third in the Cynster Series, I found this one a delightful twist to the normal romance storyline. Written in the signature style of Ms. Laurens, its mystical undercurrent was wonderful and harkens to an earlier time [i.e. Druids]. Beautifully woven into the family background story yet stands on its own. Held my interest until the end.

I think this is one of my favourites in the Cynster series. Scandal and his adventure with his Scottish pagan witch is beautifully narrated. I enjoyed Laurens' foreray into writing about the mythical. Wish she'd do more.

I just re-read this book after going back to re-read Devil's Bride. A adored the dynamic in the book between female and male power and ability that she highlights. A strong female without a strong male is brought out to be diminished, uncomplete. I liked that reading More...

The romance kept me reading but the paganism had my eyebrow burried in my hairline.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like paranormal romances and the idea of having some goddess worshippers who don't use protective colouring in 19th Century Scotland? Nope not ringing true with me, someone would notice and it would create a huge scandal, or at least regular visits from bible thumpers.

There was also a certain amount of sub-text where the female main character had to submit to More...

Can't. Stop. Reading. About. Cynsters!

For real friends, I'm going to start reading that Lincoln book for bookclub now. I'm definitely not going to read about any more of the Cynster clan.* Really. Lincoln. It's going to happen. : )

*You know, for a day or two.

In general, I read Laurens' Cynster novels when I'm particularly hard up for a fluff romance read, but the sheer ridiculousness of this one (witches of Scottish vales!) makes this one a particularly borderline read.

I really haven't tried to read past the part where she drugs Richard, something about that scene has put the brakes on my reading. Hoping to return to it, though right now its sitting in my to be finished pile.

I liked this book better than Vane's. Richard and Catronia's relationship, I felt, was a lot more developed. I especially enjoyed the rest of the Cynster's showing up. A very enjoyable read.

The romance of a witchy woman and the illegitimate Cynster. An enjoyable escape read. I like that Lauren's books end not with a kiss or marriage but with a meeting of the souls.

Pretty good read. It was a nice change from the expected "Ton Setting" you'd expect with the Cynsters. I'm a big fan of the Cynster Series over all.

Richard "Scandal" Cynster has been called to the reading of his mother's husband's will, and meets Catriona, who serves the Lady of the Vale. Catriona has been told by the Lady that Richard will father her children, but she fights her attraction and need for him, even as she is drawn to him.

A slightly paranormal bent, which is unusual for Laurens, but another good installment of the series. It loses a little bit of its luster, however, with both Richard and Catriona being a More...
