A very sweet and extremely wholesome story. Myrtle Albertina is a young girl (I'm thinking between nine and twelve? I don't think she ever states her age) living in California after the Gold Rush. Her father is a miner. Her family teases her about not being able to keep a secret, so she's determined to keep one, but when her small secret, about what she's giving her mother for her birthday, suddenly becomes a big secret, about who's been stealing gold, she struggles much harder.
