A Basket of Leaves is an excellent book and has been great preparation for a volunteer program I'll be joining in Africa this summer. I also had the chance to interview Geoff Wisner recently, which you can read at: http://laurareviews.blogspot.com/2009/04...
An interesting book.
It could have been so much better if it did not try to be so 'literary' and 'good'.
Full of tit bits from various novels, essays and travel books in the history of Africa.
Myths and true stories mingle, and it should be great but something is missing.
I think it needs a dash more creativity.
