Arguably the definite text on Adobe Lightroom. Martin Evening is Adobe's official author of Lightroom books. This book covers essentially everything, topic by topic. Each topic is accompanied by several screenshots that visually illustrate the intent of the textual explanations. The quality of the paper is superb, which helps make the screenshots really jump out. This was my first Lightroom "manual" (this and the earlier edition covering Lightroom 1) and it has served me very well. There are a f...more
The book is large and very impressive when viewing it from your bookshelf. Unfortunately, as a guide to quickly using Lightroom's features to improve your photography, I thought it was pretty poor.
Sure, everything you could every want to learn about Lightroom is in this book but it's not organized in a user friendly manner.
First, the type in some sections was so small that I literally had to squint just to attempt to read some of the material. I'm guessing that some screenshots and sections were...more

I have had this book from within a few days of its release.
A technical reference for Lightroom that serious and professional users of Adobe workflow tool should not be without for long. Adobe's official manual and guide is the source for a tremendous amount of background, trivia, and incidental information not found elsewhere all in one place.
Lightroom is a deceptively simple program. It has a great deal more capability and power bundled in an interface that while not getting in the way of the...more

Just started this, but am liking it better than Lightroom 2: Streamlining your Digital Photography Process so far. I think it's due to my current level of knowledge of LR; Evening gives more before/after shots to serve as examples of what he is talking about, and Coalson assumes you already possess a good level of knowledge.
***
Okay, after re-reading my review, maybe I need to go back and re-read Coalson's book. I was just thinking that I wished Evening gave more 'how-to' info (as far as how to a...more

ANyone who wants a Quick Easy Reference of the Lightroom 2 Software Platform
I am self taught in most of my skills and expertise. I took up Photography in 2001 and struggled a fair bit, after going through a mentorship for two years, I found my need to Master the Software end of things. The Book served merely a Reference Manual for me, but for a Total Definitive Learning Suite I think that a better book should be written.

Recommends it for:
All users of Lightroom.
The must have starting point for using Adobe Lightroom 3.
Stunning photography from Martin Evening illustrates the book and his ongoing use of this software.
If there is a weakness, it is that this is more of an encyclopedic rather than a manual type of book. Evening, the author, shows ways to do things and how it works rather than a step by step procedure for many parts of this application. The nature of the design of Adobe Lightroom encourages this and other works that dictate to the user and...more

This is the only book on Lightroom I own. I recommend any of Martin Evening's books. I will also say this about the author. I once had a problem with a specific program and just for the hell of it I emailed him. Within 24 hours he had responded with specific directions regarding my issue. Surprised? Absolutely.

Best of the Lightroom manuals currently on the market. Pretty dry, but to the point and well illustrated.
