First of all, I cannot relate to a person like this much, as well as wonder how a person cannot be satisfied on seven G's a month,or having a hundred thousand Gs as a budget for your wedding, but hey that is me and I won't hate. Yet,I will say that this sister is spoiled. I feel that when you take care of your kids and do everything including pay their credit cards and such, your not allowing them to be responsible. In this case, the good Rev Curtis Black is back, but this time they on the kids...more
When desperate times call for desperate measures, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. Alicia Black Sullivan is all grown up and married. Being the daughter of the Reverend Curtis Black, does being Daddy's Baby Girl live up to the standards of being the preacher's daughter and the preacher's wife? With Alicia, its her way or no way at all being married to Phillip.

I normally like Kimberla Roby - I've read all of the Curtis Black books so far - but this one just barely gets two stars from me. By the end I was ready to pull my hair out because of the characters and their contradictions. I won't re-state the plot - it's as stated on the book jacket - but Roby does so much "preaching" that it just ruined it for me. She tackles shopping addictions, black folk who don't go to the doctor, affairs, high living drug dealers, folk who are scared to commit to marria...more

Very slooooowwww. Shopping shopping shopping shopping and guest what? You got it! More shopping. This is the most boring book that Roby has ever written but I felt obligated to finish it. I actually skipped to the end just to see what would happen and then made myself finish the middle of the book later that week. All in all it wasn't bad, Alicia is JUST like her father :( A sex scene or two would have definitely spiced it up but whatever the cover is cute lol.
This is the second Kimberla lawson Roby book that I have read and unfortunately, I started with the follow up book Be careful what you pray for, and then I read this one. I thought it was very well written, it kept my attention. I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Now I would love to go back and read all about Rev. Curtis Black and definately looking forward to any new books coming out. Ms. Alicia is definately a piece of work and her character made me so mad!
Loved it, loved it, love it. Alicia was really Rev. Curtis Blacks daughter. Alicia's shopping is over the top.Why is it that when a woman finds a good man she has to be sooooo bad. Who could she not be there for her husban in is time of need. Shopping when You father-in-law is on his death bed. And who could she even think of being with Levi. I wish Phillip could have had more happiness in his life. O we could forget Mr & Mrs King that man was so low.
Lawson-Roby is so skilled with delivering a fast paced story with familiar characters that you get sucked in and can't leave!
The Reverend Black series continues with Miss Alicia all grown up and married. Throughout the story you re-visit story lines from previous books in the series, and all though it reads with deliberate intent (more so I think for people who read the books out of sequence) it does help as a refresher to remember significant events in the characters' lives.

The book was an "minimal ok" read. I am disappointed that these last few books by the author normally wait until about 4 or 5 chapters towards the end before it REALLY picks up the pace.
In "THE BEST...," Alicia basically picks up habits from both her father, Curtis, and her step-mother, Charlotte. While Curtis has now turned his life completely around, we get to watch Alicia spiral slowly out of control and pick up where her father leaves off at.

This has to be a joke. Someone was able to write a series about a spoiled little rich girl crying over her husband making her go on a budget? I couldn't read past the first chapter it was so bad. This is one series I am staying far away from. If I could give this negative stars, I would...I want my 20 minutes back!
This book fell flat to me. All the main character Alicia Black Sullivan did was shop, shop, and shop. Her husband, Phillip, asked her to stop shopping so much and live within her monetary means.
Huh? What? Not shop at the upper department stores, not max out my own personal credt cards and get new ones that my husband don't know about, not start having an affair with a known drug dealer to support my habit? Phillip, how dare you ask her to stop shopping.

Wow....that Alicia is something else....i thought this one hit the nail on the head of how Miss Alicia Black would turn out. My only disappointment was that all the other characters were angels. What happened to the wild side of Charlette? Didn't Alicia have a close friend she could be wild with? I am still on of Kimbedrla Lawson Roby's biggest fans but I just expected more drama. This will be on my bookshelf to read at least a few more times!
Meh.
Bargain bin. Got what I paid 5 bucks for.
(view spoiler)
The end.
1 and 1/2 stars.
