I listened to this as an unabridged audio book. Kristin Hannah has written some charming historical romances in the past which is why I was tempted to pick this up but I’m really under whelmed with this women’s fiction/chick lit/soap opera venture. Where’s the charm? Never mind that, where’s the love? All I’m reading here is bitterness and jealousy and awkward relationships. It’s making me edgy and impatient.

The book is about three sisters whose mom died of cancer when they we More...

I read this book in four days. I couldn't put it down. I just wanted to know what was going to happen. This is when you really know a book is good when it's a page turner. Anyway, this book is about three sisters trying to stay together as a family. The dad is always drinking and basically hating his life after his wife died. The three sisters are trying to make their way in life and get torn apart but certain events that happen along the way. Eventually they reunite but there is tension still b More...

I was so disappointed. I had saved this book thinking I would have a lovely time reading. I have read a lot of her books, and always enjoyed them. The relationships between the three sisters are interesting, and not real relationships. They are very flat and unnatural. There were instances where the book is so stilted with the development of some characters, I wouldn't want to read further. I got depressed the further I read, and I kept hoping that the story would get better. There are many More...

Although this story of the Grey sisters (a ranching family in Washington state) is solidly in the chick lit genre, author Kristin Hannah does take on a topic that resonates with today’s headlines. Following on from her storyline, she includes a character (Dallas Raintree), who marries one of the Grey sisters and later becomes false accused and sentenced for the crime of murder.

Before that contemporary twist to the story, however, the novel centers on the relationships of the three Gr More...

Unbelievable...Kristin never fails...she is such an amazing author! I can't recommend this book high enough...what a beautiful story. I couldn't read it fast enough and I didn't want it to end...WOW

The characters in this book are so real I felt they were part of my family. The dynamics in personality, depth of feeling and emotion, picturesque descriptions of town, home, and country, the twists and turns of what happens to them, the surprises, the hardships, and joy in one another More...

This is a hard book to rate for me. On one hand, I thought it was really good. Hannah does a super job of making you feel the emotions the characters are experiencing, at familiarizing you to the settings and the motivations of the story and just simply making you FEEL. Whether it be sadness, anger, love or disgust you get to crawl into some of the characters lives and see the story through their perspective. That part of the book I loved.
On the other hand is the mechanics of the story. H More...

The Grey sisters have always been close. After their mother's death, the girls banded together, becoming best friends. Their stern, disapproving father cares less about his children than about his reputation. To Henry Grey, appearances are everything, and years later, he still demands that his daughters reflect his standing in the community.

I loved this book. Didn't want to put it down. I had "happy" tears at a couple of parts. Life does intervene in the sisters lives More...

I was visiting my parents for a few days and found myself without a book (how did I let that happen?) so I picked this up.
This is essentially a Lifetime movie and I would have preferred to just spend two hours watching it on TV instead of two days reading it, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. The writing is nothing stellar, especially after just finishing Barbara Kingsolver's "The Lacuna" (stunning!) but the story is engaging. I liked that Hannah gave two sides to the issue and y More...

The Grey sisters are the best of friends. They are very loving and supportive of each other. After their mother died when they were young, they became very close.

Their father, Henry, is so concerned about appearances he shows little regard for his daughters. He cares about his horse ranch and how he will look to others in the community. He is very critical and constantly disapproving.

Winona, the eldest is an overweight intellect. She has become a lawyer and lives in the n More...

This was pretty mediocre. I read it, along with some other books by this author, on a whim because it was on promo for the iPad. Her writing is not exactly my style but most of the books were enjoyable. This one, though, was pretty cringe-worthy. This is the sort of book where sisters emphatically say things like, "Come on, guys. We're SISTERS," as a primary debate (aka "stfu and stop actually talking about important conflicts") tactic. Where women do cliched things like show More...

True Colors by Kristin Hannah ~ Wow...so at first I was reading this and thinking to myself, well Kristin has gone all "Romance Novel" on us and all I could picture were those cheesy Fabio book covers.... And in a matter of a few more chapters it got REALLY good!!!

What a neat novel True Colors by Kristin Hannah is! It starts off following the lives of three sisters from when their mother died while they were teens. Aurora is the peace maker who settled for marriage to “Mr. Boring” while the eldest daughter, Winona, an attorney, loves her younger sister’s fiancé and longs for her father’s approval. Vivi Ann, is engaged to a real nice guy, but isn’t in love with him and follows her heart and passion when Dallas, the new ranch hand shows an interest in he More...

I am a big fan of Kristin Hannah's books my favorites have been Night Road, Summer Island, Firefly Lane & Winter Garden - This definitely is not one of my favorites, however it is still far from being a bad book.

This is the story of three sisters, Winona, Aurora and Vivi Ann. They all live in small town in Washington called Oyster Shores. This story begins with the death of their mother when the girls are teenagers and follows them through the trials and tribulations of their adulth More...

True Colors is Kristin Hannah's 17th novel. She's successful for a reason - she knows how to connect the reader to her characters. In my opinion, her release FireFly Lane was so good, it would be a tought act to follow.

So I have high expectations whenever I pick up Kristin Hannah's novels, which may have contributed to why True Colors didn't resonate with me. The problem is probably me - this book is targeted towards women, and I'm not a woman, although I can connect with the emotion More...

One may wonder why a reader would rate a book so low and still read it. I guess I read the book because I decided not to waste my money. (That's best reason I can come up with.) I've never read Kristin Hannah before, so I picked this book up because it was cheap at Costco, and because I decided I needed a bit of light, chick-lit reading as a change of pace.

I found myself almost groaning sometimes during the story because the writing was so dull. I found two of the characters to More...

"In her 17th novel, bestseller Hannah portrays the delicate and enduring bonds of sisterhood. The story of the Grey sisters is set in a small Washington town and follows Winona, Aurora and Vivi Ann from the time of their mother's death, when they are young teens in 1979, on through adulthood, cataloguing their trials and the men who typically come bearing them, beginning with Luke, Winona's high school best friend and secret crush. But when he falls in love with Vivi Ann, who later cheats o More...

Get out your tissues, you are going to need them.

Wednesday I had a flight to Seattle and back and since it was such a short day I decided I could do without a book and just do work things. Well as often occurs at the airport flights are delayed and other things occur, so I ended up with 5 hours on my hands.

The first three hours I did alright but then I was bored out of my mind so I headed to the closest book stand. I browsed for close to half an hour narrowing down my c More...

I started out really liking this book, and stayed pretty riveted throughout the first half. But after a while, it just started to wear on me.

True Colors is the story of 3 sisters in a small town in Washington as they try to keep their family ranch afloat, find love, and live their lives. Ultimately, none of the characters in the book was terribly likable. Two of the sisters in particular both came off incredibly self-absorbed. Their love-hate relationship, particularly as it dragged More...

When I first tried to read this book, it was right at the time my mother had died from cancer, and picking a book up where a mother died from cancer at the get go was just too much for me. But now life has moved on, and ironically, my mother's death has turned out to be one of the easier things in my world these past few months. So today, when I needed to just curl up with a book to escape into, this was the perfect choice.

Sibling relationships, even at their best, are complex. I ne More...

The Grey sisters have been forced to band together after the death of their mother and the girls' unspoken language of love and loyalty is what has carried them through the pain. Sadly, their father has not been so lucky. Withdrawn and somewhat of a recluse, he finds solace in the fact that his girls have remained by his side. United and bound by devotion, this family will survive even the fiercest of storms.

Winona is the oldest of the clan, has had her share of strife. Pleasantly p More...

This was a book selected by my book club. And as with many of those selections, I didn't like it. Part I seemed like so many other books that I used to read when I was much younger. It took me a long time to read because I just didn't care about the characters. Part II was much better and it held my interest. I wouldn't recommend it because there are just too many good books to read, why waste time. I almost stopped this book several times, but continued reading because I thought I might a More...

Overall, I thought this was a good read. It started out a bit slow, but when Dallas Raintree came to town, the story picked up quite a bit and I could not put it down. My only complaint is that I wanted Aurora’s character to be developed more. I thought the author did a good job with Winona and Viva Ann, but I didn’t feel as connected with Aurora as I did the other two.

The book begins in 1979 shortly after their mother's passing. It spans almost three decades and we see how her death More...

Probably up it to 2.5 stars...and I will say it definitely improved after a major twist in the middle. But by that point, i was frustrated with it, the uninspired writing, and the cliched characters--so after the first 100 pages, I skimmed. The story focuses on 3 sisters on a ranch in the West, with an emotionally unavailable rancher father (who's pretty much a douche all the way through) and a mother dead from cancer when the girls are young. The fat oldest sister can't please her father, th More...

Another great book about families. Three sisters lose their mother while they are young and all have their own personalities. The oldest has been in love with a boy forever and the boy becomes interested in the youngest, who goes through men like water. The oldest never says anything hoping it is a passing thing and she will dump him soon. They end up engaged. Then youngest then starts having an affair with a range hand, against her family and the towns wishes. They sneak around and are finally More...

I always enjoy Kristin Hannah's books. They are well-written, interesting, and you come to know and love the characters. However, this book had some issues I believe are important to point out. WARNING SPOILERS...

Just finished my signed copy of this book!

This story takes us through a stretch of the characters lives - a generation really - and shows us how people can grow. Many times throughout this book I wanted to slap the characters around and knock some sense into them! I was miffed at the characters and thought maybe the book was a 4 review, but I realized how difficult it is to make a compelling book with such real people. It takes talent to create such flawed people. Kristen Hannah cra More...

This book is an excellent example of why, sometimes, I keep reading when I don't like a book. Granted, I had read this author before, and therefore was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt based on previous enjoyment. But I'm glad I didn't miss out on an enjoyable read.

True Colors is about the Grey sisters, who lose their mother to cancer when the oldest is 15. We skip forward over a decade. Winona, the oldest, is an embittered, fat spinster. The middle child, Aurora, is More...

I picked this up on a whim. It was super cheap at a book fair I went to, I figured it would easy reading, and I enjoyed "Firefly Lane" by Hannah mildly a few years back when I read it (it reminded me a lot of Beaches with Bette Midler, which could off put some people, but not me). I'm quite glad that I didn't pay full price for this, as I was terribly disappointed, which says something as my expectations were fairly low going in.

Two words: Tear jerker! Don't know when I started with the tears but they certainly fell. This is a love story between a man and a woman; between sisters; between a family. As with Ms. Hannah's books the chracters are well crafted and we care about what happens to them and would like a sequel to this book to take the characters even farther in their lives.

It is the story of a great love between a white woman, Vivi Ann, and a half Native American man, Dallas, and their son, Noah More...

What an incredible story! I think that this book is every bit as good as Firefly Lane!

The three sisters go through so much in this story! Each of them have their own struggles, but the fact that they remain true to each other is amazing. Yes, there are fall-outs that last for a while, but in the end, they all come back to each other. They look upon themselves for what a mother and father would give them.

My heart went out to Vivi Ann. When she fell in love with Dallas, s More...
