My thoughtful mother bought this book for me. I guess she thinks my backyard needs a makeover. LOL
There is some good info here, but it's definitely for the beginner gardener. A starting place for people working with difficult conditions. My only suggestion would be to please remember that any garden is a process. It takes years of hard work and patience to achieve results like the beautiful gardens depicted, especially when working with a budget. I think many gardening books for beginners fall

What to do, what to do with an empty backyard...

The first 3 chapters or so in this book were perfect. They offered practical, fairly low-cost ideas for taking a small-ish yard and making it something special. Then as the book progressed, the yards got much larger, and apparently so did the budget. I appreciated that they supplied lists of flowers that require little to no maintenance and can withstand being in full sun (my yard only has one protective, shade-giving tree). Great guide to garden design. Many illustrations, diagrams, and instructions. This is good for a do-it-yourselfer.
