When we last left off with Schuyler Van Alen, she was just getting used to the news of being a Blue Blood, or what we normally label them as, a vampire. She gets invited into the New York Blood Bank Committee and, before she knows it, Schuyler is swept away into the unknown world of the Blue Bloods. Unfortunately, it seems like Schuyler discovered her true self at the wrong time, since three Blue Blood tee...more

Melissa dela Cruz, this is a filler right?

Come on, nothing really happen in this book. I guess I just have to read the next one since many of my friends considered Book 3 as the best out of the series .

I just don't like that majority of the book was all about partying and hooking up (meh that's pretty much it).

I really also don't have a favorite character atm so to speak. None of them really strike me as interesting enough to held my interest. And I just felt ...more

While the vampire lore was pretty much all that kept me going while reading Blue Bloods, I found a little more to appreciate while reading its sequel, Masquerade. Granted, this book isn't perfect, but it is a slight step up.

One big thing I noticed was the minimal designer name-dropping. It worked against the previous novel, basically since it made the characters even more distant and unrelatable (except the fact that they're, you know, vampires and all), since I don't think any reade...more

"Masquerade" is the second installment In De La Cruz's "Blue Bloods" series. It continues where "Blue Bloods" left off, when Schuyler's grandmother was reprocessed through the vampire cycle, where she would eventually be reborn, after an interrupted attack by a Silver Blood. She (along with her Conduit Oliver) goes on a mission in Venice to find her grandfather, Lawrence Van Alen. Her grandmother's last plea was that Schuyler find her grandfather so that he could sa...more

What would you do if you could bring the dead back to life? I didn't like Masquerade, I loved it beacuse it will leave you with so many questions that you will have to read the next book. Schulyer Van Alen goes on an adventure to figure out the truth. Even things seems to be going fine as she connects with long lost faminly members. Unfortunately, her world is turned upside down when a explosion goes off in the most secure place for a Blue Bloods. And when people start making assumtions about wh...more

Recommends it for: teen girls who like reading about clothes, parties, hot guys and hooking up

This second "Blue Bloods" book has one major improvement - the number of pages dedicated to describing various pieces of clothing is reduced from about 150 pages in the first book to about 50. The rest of the book is of the same quality - same flat characters, same obsession with parties, expensive things and good looks, same absence of noticeable climax, and, sadly, same plot (or lack of it).

What goes for these books however is a very intriguing new take on vampire lore. I...more

This wasn't as good as the first one. I actually went back, and flipped through the first one to make sure I wasn't imagining things. de la Cruz's writing style gets much more stilted and awkward in this book, and her exposition gets much more awkward. The first ten pages are full of INFORMATION BEING THROWN AT YOUR HEAD, HEY GUYS REMEMBER FROM THE LAST BOOK?!?

Maybe I was on less cold medicine this time around, but I wasn't as enthralled. The story is still interesting (I like ho...more

Masquerade by Melissa De La Cruz is the second book of the Blue Bloods saga. Masquerade continues with the fight between the blue blooded vampires and the silver blood vampires where the Blue Blooded vampires carry on to finding who were the Silver Blood vampires that where uncontrollably consuming the Red Blooded humans and Blue Blooded vampires. This book is told through mainly three perspectives (through the perspective the protagonist, Schuyler, the antagonist, Mimi and Schuyler’s friend, Bl...more

I loved this book. It was sooo good I read it in one day. It is probably better for girls because it is written from a girl's point of view, but I think anyone would enjoy it. It was one of the best books I have ever read.
This book was about Schuyler, a girl who is a blue blood, or a vampire. But the vampires peacefully live among humans. There are alot of twists to this story, making for a great mystery. It is about teens who are learning how to live with the powers of being a vampire. ...more

After reading the first book in the series and being dissapointed by it, I wasn't expecting a lot from this one. Well, I was definitely most pleasantly surprised! After reading this installment, which I find to be infinitely superior to the first, I cannot wait to continue the series. Things definitely become much more interesting in this book since all the ground work is laid out for the series and all the main characters fully developed. If you're unsure after reading the first one, definitely...more

This was just as good as the first. Perhaps even better!

I really liked how the nightmares with Bliss Llewelyn are still a mystery and I can't believe that she's also the daughter of Allegra!!!! I'm so glad that her and Schuyler have band together and i think that their friendship will thrive. It's a guess but I think that Bliss is the missing Maggie but that is just me. I wonder how she got back.

Anyway the writing was great and I'm glad this time Cruz didn't get into the fashion aspect too...more

I bought this book yesterday and finished yesterday too.

Urgh. I was too intrigued by the first book's whole IDEA to let this one go by without a read. I buy books out of habit, one I should VERY much stop until I have read it before since this one too was a waste of my money.

Urgh again! More blandness. I want to punch Charles force in the face, slap Mimi and the whole Kingsley thing was random and just .... what was the fracking point? Also, Mimi said in the first bo...more

This is the second book in the Blue Bloods series. In the last book I got all caught up into the trouble of Jack and Schyler having a relationship. Well that is carried into this book. Even though Jack is suppose to love Mimi, and have a eternal bond, he can't fight that he loves Schyler more. Then Schyler finds that her best friend Oliver is some what in love with her. Then to mix it up even more Schylers grandfather she finds and trys to convice to live with her and refuses, just happens t...more

even more drama! schulyer and oliver's relationship takes a twist, lost relatives return, and the monster in bliss' dreams is still around. mimi gets what's coming to her, in a sense, and then, strangely, charles force wants schulyer.

this installment was more action-filled and assumed from the beginning that we knew the characters and the setting. there was no baby-sitter's club-type intro, which i appreciated. (i always ended up skipping that part of the book - i knew claudia dressed...more

"Don't you like parties?" he asked, when he noticed her sitting by herself on a ruined stone bench.
Schuyler laughed, "I hate them, actually."
"Me too."
"I never know what to say, or what to do."
"Well, it looks like dancing is involved. And drinking. Of all kinds."
He was a vampire, then, Schuyler wondered who he was, and why he was bothering to speak to her.

Masquerade is the second novel in Melissa De La Cruz’s Blue Bloods series. Written for a Young Adult audience the Blue Bloods books follow the (mostly social) adventures of a group of rich and beautiful teens living a life of privilege in Manhattan. However, its worth noting that although this series is targeted at Young Adult readers there is plenty of cross-over appeal for older adult readers too. In addition to being good-looking and wealthy these teens are also Blue Blood vampires and are in...more

I read the first book in the series, Blue Bloods, last year and I remember it just being OK.
I picked up this book on a whim and was really intrigued by it. I still don't *love* the characters but the whole vampire/fallen angel mythology is really interesting and finding more information about the Silver Bloods and their infiltration into the Blue Bloods society kept me reading. I finished the book in just three hours.

The book begins with Schuyler and Oliver in Italy looking for...more

This is actually a 2 1/2 star review, but since you can't do half stars...

I consumed this sequel in just under four hours. Which would be impressive, although it should be noted that these books are not densely written and about a third of it consists of descriptions of what people are wearing and the names of fashion designers, which I am quite glad to skip.

That said, if you liked the first one, you're almost guaranteed to enjoy the second because the author doesn't really...more

Gabrielle - In this second book of the series, you get a little bit of a mystery, as Schuyler and her best friend, Oliver, travel to Venice to find her grandfather. But it’s hard to find someone who does not want to be found. Meanwhile, Mimi is help plan the Four Hundred Ball that is exclusively only for Blue Bloods. She also has planned a secret masquerade after party for the young bloods. Bliss, on the other hand, is experiencing blackouts and finding herself in places she can’t remember going...more

In Masquerade the second installment in the blue blood series, identities are revealed, and past lives explored. Schuyler travels looking for her long lost grandfather Lawrence Van Allen the only person alive at this moment who can give her answers about the Silver Bloods. Schuyler also finds out more about herself being a blue blood and realizes that she must pick a familiar. There is one obvious choice- but with that choice come dire consequences.Bliss, the Blue Blood who moved from Houston wi...more

As promised, I'm back with remarks about the second novel in Melissa de la Cruz's Blue Bloods Series - Masquerade. It picks up soon after where the previous book ended with Schuyler and her human conduit and best friend, Oliver, in Venice, seeking out her reclusive grandfather. She feels as though, if she's going to fight back and win against the Silver Bloods, she's going to need her grandfather - Lawrence Van Alen's - guidance and knowledge. Formerly influential and still extremely intellectua...more

This book was even better than the first in the series: Blue Bloods! Melissa de la Cruz outdoes herself with fantastic characters, intense action and a page-turning storyline.

In this novel, which picks up exactly where Blue Bloods leaves off, we are introduced to more non-stop suspense and drama. Schuyler Van Alen (our main character) must do everything she can to find out what kind of monster is out there killing off other blue bloods like herself. With the help of her grandfather, ...more

There is something about this series that pulls you right in. I love the author's unique spin on vampires. It is something that I've never read or heard of before, and it captures you. It's a new-age twist on vampire mythology that will have you begging for more.

Masquerade picks up a couple of weeks after Blue Bloods ended. The storyline is fast pace, exciting, and dangerous. Masquerade is a great title for this novel as there are many things hiding behind a mask (man, I sound like...more

Masquerade by Melissa de la Cruz (pp. 320)

The second installment of the Blue Bloods series is like candy. It’s bad for you, filled with some marginal ingredients, but still leaves you with a smile on your face and wanting another piece. Like many young adult series authors and fantasy series writers, it’s hard to find the start and stop of a cohesive plot or plots. Larger ideas are thrown in out of the blue and what feels like major plot lines are just mini-episodes to add some ...more

Mini Review: Fantastic continuation of the series. I enjoyed this one even more than the first novel in the series. The history of the blue bloods is more fleshed out and there is a lot better character development in this installment of the series. There are tons of twists and turns in the plot and it keeps you guessing about what is going on. I like the heroine Schuyler as I find her rather sweet and real. I also enjoy her connection with her best friend Oliver as it really is an honest por...more

To understand my likes and dislikes with this book, you should perhaps read my review on Blue Bloods. Everything is basically the same, except only amplified. The characters are more intriguing, the mystery harder to unravel, and origin more exposed. However, the things I didn't like about the book are also amplified. Even more information is withheld, only this time much more blatantly. The issue I have is not with the withholding of information in and of itself, but they way in which it is don...more

In Italy, Schuyler goes with Oliver to find her grandfather because he might have some information on the Silver Bloods, and why they keep attacking. Schuyler finds her grandfather, but it turns out that her trip wasn’t really worth it. Her grandfather tells her that he can’t help her. Schuyler and Oliver travel back home to New York City disappointed, but that is only on the plane ride back. When Schuyler gets to her house, she finds someone there. It is her grandfather. He came back to help Sc...more

This sequel didn't dissapoint me. Schuyler and Jack's relationship are even more comlicated than before. We know for sure that they have some strong feelings for eachother, but because of the immortal bond he has with his twin Mimi, their relationship are doomed to be failed. But it doesn't mean that they can't be together in the future, who knows maybe this is the big change we have been waiting for, just like Schuyler's mum have done before her, by marry her familiar and "cut off" he...more

This is the second book in the Blue Bloods series by Melissa de la Cruz. I was pleasantly pleased with this book. After reading both Melissa Marr's "Ink Exchange" and the remainder of the House of Night series I have to say, I think Melissa de la Cruz writes much better than either of those authors.

Schuyler travels to Italy with Oliver in hopes of finding her grandfather; she hopes he can help her figure out how to fight the Silver Bloods. Meanwhile the Blue Blood community i...more
