I struggle with these books. I really do. I've recommended them so many times simply because I adore Lestat. He's the reason I've given this book such a high rating. He is a fascinating creature, and I only wish he was in the hands of someone other than Anne Rice.

I think the problem is that Lestat is such a powerful, complex, and enchanting character that the others pale in significance in comparison to him. I grew bored reading about Armand - I wanted to get back to Lestat. I grew bored rea...more

I'm going to just put this out there: Lestat is among the most fascinating minds I've ever been inside in literature. He just is. I understand that this is an erotic horror novel but that doesn't diminish the truth of that statement. This book holds up to the test of time. I re-read it last year, and found out that I had not had a silly teenage fancy about it.

I did not like Interview with a Vampire (mostly because I think Louis is whiny bitch), and I was going to quit reading the series. But...more

Second in the Vampire Chronicles.

Lestat, the misunderstood vampire who created Louis in Interview with the Vampire, tells his own story here. We see, from Lestat's perspective, many of the same events described by Louis in the first book.

While recovering from Claudia's attack, Lestat rests underground for many years. He is finally drawn back into life in the 1980's. He is entranced by the music of a garage band named Satan's Night Out. He rises, introduces himself to the band, and pr...more

Do you like vampire Lestat? You will get him in this book and it will make you overfed with him. Lestat is somebody about him is nice to read but you do not want to meet in person or even get in any contact with him. Lestat was always selfish and he always got what he wanted by any mean he found necessary to use. He had no remorse, no morals, but he is sexy. His turning in to the vampire went by the hard way and it influenced his craving for the search of the roots of his kind. He sacrificed pra...more

One of my all-time favorite books, ever. I've read and re-read this so many times. I still think Rice has created one of the most dynamic and interesting fictional characters in modern literature with this book, though she pretty much imploded on her own self-importance and ruined him later in the series. I think part of the brilliance of The Vampire Lestat is the way it completely makes one re-think the events of Interview with the Vampire. She d...more

This was my favorite of Anne Rice's Vampire Trilogy. Unfortunately just about everything lame about this book made it into the movie The Queen of the Damned, and just about everything good was left out. Rice's eroticism, both homo and hetero, was just boring, as was the angst (I wanted to kick Louis' ass worse than Lestat at the end of Interview), but Rice is a master at historical fiction. This is where her works shine, and The Vampire Lestat keeps getting better, delving first into renaissa...more

I fell in love with Lestat in this book; it's true I love a bratty narrator, and as this devilish undead boy is the "Brat Prince," I felt quite at home in his narrative voice. This book is so much more upbeat than the first installment in the Vampire Chronicles; it's true Lestat is far more entertaining than poor Louis, the whiny newbie vampire of New Orleans. I loved following him through the present-day streets of America, and though I loved his backstory of how he came to be, what e...more

I usually find myself re-reading this book at least once a year since the first time I picked it up. Why? Well, you can't say no to Lestat.
Rice created a character that is charismatic to such a degree that, despite all your efforts to dislike him, you need this anti-hero in your life.
After reading Interview I NEEDED more information. I craved to learn about Lestat. I could not believe that he was truely unfeeling... there must be a backstory. Now that might seem optimistic, but lovi...more

I liked this book better than Interview. Rice knows takes charactization to the ultimate level and creates the iconic Lestat, the unabashed Vampire prince. After rotting under the Big easy for centuries, something clicks in Lestat and he arises and immediately becomes his modern day equivalent: a friggin rock star. He uses his music to tell his story. And what a story. Rice digs deep and creates a world for her vampires that has spawned over a dozen books.

Interview was a clever idea t...more

a fine piece of fiction. I actually read THIS book in the series before "Interview...". If you've never read any books in the series, start with this one before going to the first one like I did. Lestat is a pompous @$$ through and through. Despite this, his character to me is downright affable. His history is facinating. From a young child or royalty to his vampiric turning to his voyage to the new world comign to New Orleans, each page is dripping with richness.

If they restart th...more

Vampire Lestat is my favorite of Anne Rice's novels. I've read most of the vampire stories that have lestat or the off shoot characters that weave in and out of his life.

I struggled with some of the newer vampire books. I couldn't get through violin at all. As much as I loved all Lestat books, this one was by far my favorite. He's a rich character who's part philosopher part monster part relious man with deep conflicts about the existance of God. Aren't we all like him, somewhere deep down...more

The second book in the vampire cronicles, and in the vampire universe, written by Lestat. It's interesting to see how Anne Rice writes a book "by a character" and makes it convincingly different from her previous book, Interview. Lestat is not so sentimental as Louis, and even goes so far as to call what was in Interview a bit false. After reading this book however, the characters seem to become more one dimensional. Armand the always needy vampire; Lestat the brave and brash; Louis th...more

As the title implies, this is the story about the vampire Lestat a.k.a. the vampire that reborned Louis into a vampire. In this novel, Lestat's perspective of the world is expressed, as well as significant experiences and changes he has gone through to become the person, or shall I say vampire, he is presently. A very "appetizing" novel, though I have a disliking for Lestat, aminly for the harm he has gone to Louis for his own selfish gains. It disgusts me, but shall be another story f...more

I love this book. It made me want to become a writer. The language is absolutely lush. The story, though you know it's not true, manages to drag you in and make you almost believe that the character of Lestat is real. It does exactly what a book should do - disappear in your hands.

Beyond the story, it's also a vivid portrayal of New Orleans. Even if you've never been there before, you know the smells, the sights - the sensuality of this city - in a way that makes it feel familiar when you visi...more

Lestat is my most favorite book character of all. Charismatic, debonair, the rock star gentleman, he is the icon of youthful perfection and yet beneathe those layers is a lust for knowledge. The backround he is given is magnificently made and tells us so much more about him. In Louis's eyes he was vicious vampire who cared about no one but himself. Yet in a first person POV we see his reasons behind all the desicions and he admits his mistakes. Thus proving he was more human than any of the othe...more

Oh, Lestat, Lestat... It was love at first sight. In the interview with the vampire Lestat is showed as a cruel vampire, someone who has no feelings and is hard to deal with; but in this book he shows his own self to the world, the real Lestat de Lioncourt, a beautiful vampire prince who is tormented by his feelings of love and hatred of his condition of vampire but is sure of one thing: he is Lestat, the cruel, the imortal, the star, the hero of his own dreams, and, of course, the hero of our d...more

This is the first book I read in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles (it is actually the second book), and although you may be put off by the word "vampire" in the title and dismiss it as a piece of geeky vampire fiction for freaks, I would beg you to reconsider. The story is actually pretty mature, but in it, you discover the past of one of the main characters from the first book "Interview with the Vampire." Both comical and heartbreaking, it's easy to become addicted to Rice's ...more

this is by far my favorite book of the series and one of my favorite books in general. i've read it many times because it never ceases to fascinate. it is exciting, interesting, seductive, and delightfully horrifying in its own way. lestat is one of the best characters i've come across in my readings and i would recommend this for everyone. it is a fascinating story that leaves the reading wanting so much more. unfortunately, anne rice doesn't produce anything worth reading after this.

I must admit that I am not a big fan of Anne Rice's writing style, but I really liked this book a lot. I think it is even superior to "interview", which I hold a high regard for too, but you have to love Lestat on so many complicated levels. Unfortunately, the best book of "The Vampire Chronicles" is also the last good one. I read "Queen of the Damned" and "The Body Snatcher" which were ok and "Memnoch the Devil" which was worse, hence I haven't
