What was ahead held no fears for me. Strange, this, for I was a timid boy, afraid of spiders, afraid of the dark, afraid of bullies, afraid of the unseen and the unknown. Yet I had craved this adventure with a desperate enthusiasm which overcame the fears and objections of my parents, and when I left the security of my home I had no uneasiness.

I LOVED it!!!

It is a true story of how the Author arrived in Australia in the 1910s and had to go through all of the trials the locals put all the poms through. Such as the bad horse one, every new arrival to Australia was put on a flighty horse and was inevitably thrown off. (It's called breaking the human in, not the horse! - That was a joke by the way).

Wonderfully described sense of place set in the Australian outback. A young Englishman's adventures encountering many bush characters before WWI.
I love this book. Read it 1979.
