Not one of my favorite Newbery Honor books, but not one of my least favorites, either. The subject matter was interesting enough, but the writing style was just not very engaging. I've read better immigrant stories and better woodcutting stories. Plenty. So read this one if you are a Newberry completist or super interested in Norwegian settlers in Wisconsin, but otherwise, you can probably give it a pass.

Must be biographical material - an interesting but not particularly exciting story of Norwegian emigration to the U.S. Midwest.

I feel that this is a VERY idealistic take on immigration. It was cute, I was happy everything worked out for everyone but it was all very ideal.
