This writer, by far, is one of the funniest that I have read in a very long time. Mr. Friedman has a very sharp wit, a caustic sense of humor and loves a good play on words."Road Kill" was a fantastic, fast-paced, lighthearted mystery with plenty of humor thrown in for good measure.
The story takes place in New York, as well as Texas and, later, in Hawaii. Mr. Friedman, writing about himself as a P.I., looks at himself in the mirror one day, seeing a Gypsy staring back at h More...

This is one of the funniest books you will ever read. Written in a suspenseful manner and starring Willie Nelson and his joint that is the size of a kosher salami, Roadkill will have your sides hurting from beginning to end. This is one of those books that you will want to read cover to cover without putting it down.

Very funny to read but also very thoughtful. Kinky is wordsmith with a lot of wit and wisdom.
Funny plot with the disappereance of Willie Nelson and some kind of nasty indian curses to handle for the privat-eye Kinky.

Don't know if I was in the right head space for this, but the sexual innuendos and constant one liners got tiresome. Still, it had some redeeming qualities, because I finished it.

I got this book when I was forced by my mother to attend the big Austin Book Fair. I actually met Kinky. He asked me why I looked so angry, and I told him that it was because my mother was an unreasonable and psychotic woman. He said, well you might not always feel that way, or hell, maybe you will. I thought he was refreshingly honest and funny. So, I decided to actually read the book.

This wasn't quite as funny as I hoped it would be, but fans of Willie Nelson and outlaw country music will appreciate the puns and inside humor.

I've never read a Kinky Friedman book before - and probably won't read another. I just didn't get it.

Kinky is hilarious! Truly! Any of his books lift your spirits. Perfect for summer reading.

If you want to read one Kinky "Big Dick" Friedman novel, try this one. Besides the usual three-laff-a-page Kinkyisms, it actually does get to the heart of the genius of Willie Nelson--who is the focus of the book and the target of its villains. What an ending, too. If you are both a hardcore Willie and Kinky fan, get the Kinky tribute CD Why the Hell Not? (with covers by Willie, Todd Snider, Lyle Lovett, and Dwight Yoakam) and the DVD of Willie and Kinky on Charlie Rose promoting it (

If you love Kinky, you'll love this one. If you think Kinky is too whatever, then skip this one, too. Me, I love Kinky - his music and his books and I loved Road Kill (but, even I think it wasn't as good as Armadillos and Old Lace which was his best). The Kinkster is called in to find out if Willie Nelson is in danger or not. Yep, it's another Kinky adventure.

Quirky and funny, just like Kinky Friedman in the flesh...on the road with Willie Nelson on the "Honeysuckle Rose"...protecting Willie from a "series of unfortunate" that may have been caused by the death of a shaman who was hit by the bus...plenty of "pun" cultural references...a very fun read!!!

Let's see, what can I remember? This may be the only Kinky Friedman mystery set outside of New York City. Willie Nelson is a prominent character. It has a bunch of his tried and true jokes, and some new ones too. Was it this one that said you're only as old as the woman you feel? A classic.

I loved this book-- my dad gave it to me when i was desperately searching for a book to take to the beach. (and i would like to mention that i read it way before anyone's governor was a jewish cowboy!) wonderfully willie nelson!

No one is going to mistake Kinky for Nabokov, but this is an highly entertaining book. The voice is strong and funny. There is a solid mystery here hidden behind some really bad jokes.

Off-beat, and humorous, interspersed with country music references and characters. Kinky has a real weird sense of life in general which I enjoyed

Mysteries really aren't my cup of tea but Kinky Friedman's tale of trying to head off Willie Nelson's killer is funny, if nothing else.

Another excellent audiobook selection. I really like Kinky Friedman, even though his books are pretty much all the same.
