This is a useful book because there are not many resources available that I'm aware of which tackle this important topic. It's also unique in providing an array of cross-cultural research on social networks. Unfortunately, the book suffers from some flaws which tarnish its value. The centerpiece of the book is a study conducted in 1968 with a random sample of 845 adults. That is all well and good, but many of the book's conclusions are drawn from a much smaller subsample of 33 individuals, and ...more
