Stake That (A Blood Coven Vampire Novel) by Mari Mancusi is the second book in the Blood Coven Vamire series. It follows Rayne (sister of Sunny and lover of vampires) as she finds out that she is a Vampire Slayer. While she initially balks at the idea she agrees to help find out what has been going on with a vampire who is trying to take out Magnus (Sunny's boyfriend).

In Stake That we join Rayne as she thinks she is getting her life back together after the whole Sunny gets bit by Rayne's Blood mate....WRONG! Rayne suddenly learns that she is in fact next in line to become the next vampire slayer and there is nothing she can do about it because if she refuses a blood virus will instantly kill her. On Rayne's first assignment she must get to the bottom of and expose a vampire running a blood bar for what he has planned and of course stake him!. There Rayne meet...more
Rayne is faced with her new role as a vampire slayer. She's learning everything, from which vampires are which to the art of carving her own wooden stake. To complicate matters she must work with Jareth, a vampire who makes Rayne's head spin.
Add to the adventures a love interest for the girls' mother, a dangerous, unknown vampire virus.
Rayne teams up with Jareth, second in command to Magnus and a vampire who is not impressed with Rayne. Can Rayne slay the evil vampire and find out what is bothe...more

I was initially disappointed that this was going to be told from the POV of Rayne instead of Sunny. Sunny had actually really annoyed me as a narrator, but Rayne didn't seem like much of a character, either. And then in the first chapter we find out Rayne is going to be telling her story to a public blog. I don't really have a problem with this, except she is writing all these top-secret vampire things in a public forum. One of her "comments" even mentions this and she tries to cover it up and s...more

I started the first book of this series a long time ago, so I didn't really remember what happened. However, the second book does a good job of explaining what happened anyway. I really liked this book in the way that it was written. "Stake That" is written in the form of a blog post or diary entry, and I liked it better because I was better able to understand how the character is like based on the language and emotions. This book was also different from most vampire books, because while most of...more
Cheesy and tacky. I picked this up without realizing it was the second in the series. Rayne pissed me off quite a bit. I got used to her until she got into the whole "everyone is a clone of each other." If people stereotype you, don't stereotype others in return. It just perpetuates a nasty cycle. And despite appearances, people don't always wear their drama on the outside. Just because a person doesn't dress in dark clothes that scream loudly, doesn't mean that the person isn't hurting inside....more
The first book in this series, Boys that Bite, told the story of what happened after Rayne's sister Sunny was accidentally bitten by a vampire who'd intended to bite Rayne. In book two, Rayne discovers that instead of the vampire that she has always longed to be, she's actually the chosen one, Slayer Inc.'s newest vampire slayer. Her first assignment: find out what evil vampire Maverick is up to as he plots to take down Magnus, the leader of the Blood Coven (and Sunny's boyfriend). Rayne teams u...more

The series
These books are needless insults to vampires. They are abominations to buffy the vampire slayer, they are worse than every pansy vampire you've ever heard of. Even the sparkly ones. Yes, they are worse than this.

The funny thing is, they know it. Yes, Mari macusi is making fun of vampires. Very plainly, in front of our faces. Another funny thing, this is exactly what makes these books so awesome. The author is making fun of vampire books and giving us a great story about a rather brash and volati...more

If you thought the first book The Blood Coven Novel was good Stake That gets better. The first book we are learning a little bit about Sunny, now it is Rayne turn. Rayne is Sunny's twins sister and wants to be a vampire but thanks to a mistake by Sunny's real true love Magnus which is the new Head of the Coven (Magnus was next in line after Buffy the Vamp Slayer no not Michelle Gellar!! got into the coven and killed Lucifent) Rayne is back to square one waiting for another Blood Mate which I thi...more
Well here is a couple funny facts about the book. You knw in the first one Boys that Bite Rayne was mad at her twin sister Sunny for getting bitten by Magnus. All her life Rayne wanted to become a vampire and now to top that all off she is now the new Vampire Slayer. isnt that weird? I mean she just cant get a break and her first mission is to save the blood coven from a big bad vamp working an illegal blood bar. She starts working with this hottie vamp and soon find herself falling for him just...more
The second book...mhm...quite good story.
I like this sister more than sunny. Maybe for my taste the love story developed a bit fast.
But I like the ending, because the end is quite interessting. I also like the story maybe I deducted a star, because the story is a bit boring ...there is something lacking...more adventure maybe?
To say something positive! I think her character is a typical character of a 16 year old girl not like the first book where I often thought: ' Is she 16 ? '

If you haven't had an opportunity to read my review of Boys That Bite, please click here and go take a look. It will give you some insight into the utter fangirl that I've now become for Mari Mancusi's writing. Oh yes, I'm smitten. Or as Mari would probably say once bitten, always smitten? Something like that :).
To reiterate what I've said before, what I love about The Blood Coven books is just how much fun they are to read! Sunny and Rayne are hilariously snarky characters, and they possess the...more

Stake That is the 2nd book in the Blood Coven Vampire novels by Mari Mancusi. It's written from (Rayne McDonald) Rayne's point of view. At the very end of Boys That Bite you learn that Rayne finds out she has a new destiny. In this book you learn what that destiny is, how she deals with it, and what other interesting twists and turns happen in her life. I enjoyed the different writing style in it with the blog entries, friend comments, and also the World of Warcraft convos, and IM chats. Very un...more
Wow well this series got even cheesier than the first book. Rayne was pretty funny at times. I did really enjoy Rayne and Sunny trying to prove their mom's boyfriend was a vampire. Whe I was reading that part on the subway I was actually laughing out loud. She definitely had her moments. By the end of the book I was cringing pretty hard though. Rayne is supposed to be this emo goth but other than the way she dresses, she's pretty valley girl. This book is a very easy read. If you're looking for...more

No one. Unless you like kinda funny and super cheesy books.
I bought this book and the first and the third at the same time because it looked like it would be really good. I will never do that again and I realize that it was my mistake. But me + money + bookstore are not a good combination.
This book was seriously disappointing. It was cheesy and nothing seemed even close to real. I know that vampires aren't real, but in most of the supernatural books I have read the supernatural/paranormal creatures have seemed real enough that it doesn't seem seriously...more

Great book, I love Rayne. I liked the overall story and the fact that she got to be a vampire like she wanted but I thought that the love story was a little underdeveloped. They didn't spend a lot of time together and then all of a sudden they were in love. I think that the first book developed the love story a little better. I really wish Sunny would become a vampire. I think the next one is about Magnus getting a blood mate or something and I'm not happy about that at all. But I'm sure I will...more

this book it a laugh your head off kind of book, it is the perfect book if you are looking for a laugh and a funny story filled with kinda pradictable but still sweet romance and some really funny (gosh I keep saying that word lol) characters.
One word to describe the authors writing would have to be modern.
the author uses words/slang/abbreviations. such as omg btw and a whole load of FYI. Its is a bit anoying at first but after a while I started to like how relaxed this serie...more

Stake That is a great continuation of Boys That Bite. I never expected Rayne to be selected as the new vampire slayer. Rayne has no choice but to accept her destiny. She is to act as an undercover in the Bite Bar, owned by an evil vampire called Maverick to find out his wicked plan to stage a coup d'état. And she is aided by Jareth, who hates her at first but eventually agrees to partner up with her to investigate the case. And I'm totally betting on Rayne's love relationship with Jareth, who is...more
Found myself liking this book! so much even maybe a little more than the first one!
I think it was because about identifying myself with Rayne not in the goth department but in her personality!!loved her and Jareth, Mancusi seems to like the plot where guys-meets-girl-hate-her girl-meets-boy-and-hate-him then guy-girl-fall-in-love kind of romance!
anyways!! I can't say much more about the book but that it is definitely an enjoyable read where you will find yourself either laughing so hard or rolli...more

Rayne's plans to vamp out again take a turn for the worst as she's taken aside by the drama teacher and told that she's "the chosen one," the new Slayer (seems the current slayer, Bertha, is having a cholesterol and high blood pressure problem and must retire). There's something funny going on at a vamp club downtown and Rayne must investigate. Fortunately, thanks to Sunny, Rayne has some friends on the inside to help out. One, Jareth, is Rayne's idea of perfection: dark, moody, emo, built, etc....more

I really like this series. It's weird, though, because this series doesn't contain types of books that I generally like. I don't usually like things that almost make fun of the vampire world because they seem more like parodies and I'm not really into parodies as much as I am into love stories. But this is really funny and it has cute love stories. I love the hilarity that Mari Mancusi uses to make up both Rayne and Sunshine. Stake That! is a hilarious sequel to Boys that Bite. It had me laughing with Raynie's sense of humor! Damn, she's good at sarcasm and blogs. Also, Jareth! ARGHHH! He's more romantic than Mag. When Raynie described the bite and the kiss... damn. I swooned and giggled and gone on fan girl mode.

Oh. My. Gods. Rayne, the goth girl who has always wanted to be a vampire turns out to be a vampire slayer! Seriously! I was in such a shock in the last book that I seriously could not think straight! I mean, a slayer?! But its not all bad, I guess, since Rayne gets to kill only the badies.
