This series is very good. While it doesn't get the love that Sookie Stackhouse, Lestat, Anita Blake, Buffy and countless others get, it is just as good or better. These books would make a beautiful movie or series AND have the most DIVERSE cast that the world has ever seen!!! If hope Ms. Banks brings these stories to Hollywood (or HBO or Showtime) and if she ever needs a script writer, just send it my way!!!

Up to this point I was liking the series. Now I LOVE it! The vampire huntress squad was magnified and you really got to see a dynamic that will leave you loving or hating them.

Vampire huntress Damali grows up and her lover Master Vampire Carlos gets a whiff of something. There is a lot to always bite off and chew slowly when reading L A Banks. This book blooms into a thorny rose that pricks you. It wants blood.

So we open up knowing that Damali & her gang are depressed. I'm not entirely sure why they're all depressed – they just kind of are. I think it's because they escaped from the tunnels of hell but Carlos – a vampire who none of them knew – didn't. This also really depresses Damali who expresses this by having a random vampire kill, just because and decides to have a reunion with an old friend, drink booze and spend some time reminiscing and being depressed

We know they're depressed because the...more

The first 2/3 of this book are great but towards the end I completely lost interest due to the fact the last one hundered pages could have been cut down to twenty pages or less. Also, some supporting characters are flat and interchangable. Even the main characters, including the Vampire Huntress herself, seem flat.

There are, however, several likable aspects of this book. Banks has two love stories, a young woman love story and an older woman love story. It's nice to see that in a novel. Too ofte...more

Sorry, I couldn't finish this book. I read the first two, barely and don't know why I kept on. I really wanted to like these books but there were too many problems. First, I felt like the author had no idea what street slang was or who used it. I do not feel that any of these characters would speak that way. Daaaaamn!!???? Just because they are in the rap/hip-hop music world doesn't mean they're uneducated. Maybe the speech was just dated? I don't know but that was my main problem. Secondly, the...more

3 stars.....
It was so hard to come up with the rate.

Sometimes I wanted to rate it at 1 star.
Other times I wanted to give it 5 stars.

THE METHOD OF COMING UP WITH THIS RATING:

I counted all of the bad scenes (of long, boring dialogue... at times 30 pages of two characters sitting in a kitchen talking in paragraphs of dialogue)...

I multiplyed that total by the HOT Carlos and Damali scenes ("Are you going to come when I call?" Carlos asked, entering her! Shoot if she doesn't come.. I damn sure will...more

i dont even know where to begin with this book. im so conflicted i cant even rate it. plot wise i think this boom is so fantastic it draw me in and made me experience pretty much every emotion that exists. i didnt like that carlos was interested in another woman i like my vamps monogamous but i understand the purpose of it so i cant be too mad. as always damali is kick ass and gets even more so in this book. the story drew me in and wouldnt let me go til the end
now the negative. the dialogue was...more

I am a total fan of this series. When I got the book from the library I was really excited. I was actually kind of made that "New Moon" by Stephenie Meyers was standing in my way of reading a more adult vampire romance story.

What I really enjoy about Banks writing in this series is that she gives you a little more information on the background of the characters and their history with each book. As the story moves along the rules of the vampire world are reveled and shows how much thought that sh...more

I actually barely was able to finish this book...I was so excited to read it and then when I finally did I really didn't like it at all...A lot of it was way too gory for me...I'm all for supernatural and suspense and a lot of love, but, excessive gore, not so much...Fans of hardcore vampire stories written more so on the dark side of the spectrum vs. a more balanced approach would probably love this series...I'm a sensitive reader so if it's too much than I can't handle it...And this was too mu...more

I have to say I definitely liked this better than the first two in this series. And after reading the teaser for The Bitten at the end, I'm anxiously looking forward to that one now too.

Granted like the first two, the writing style got to me at times. Were it not for the fact that the characters tend to say a lot of useless and unimportant stuff, I might've gotten lost in the dialogue sometimes, partially because of the dialect they use—is it called hip hop, black, or urban street language, I'm...more

You have to give this series a chance..yes there is some hip hop language but this saga of books takes you on a journey. It brings in elements of good and evil, heaven and hell, God and the devil.. There are characters such as cain & abel, adam & eve and so on... Give this series a chance before you just say forget it...in the end it will be worth it..check out all 12 or 13 novels!!!!

This book is MUCH heavier and more complicated than the first two in the series. To be honest, it took me a while to get through it, because although there is just as much thrilling, scary action and steamy, star-crossed romance and the characters and mythology were just as compelling as the previous two installments, this book suffers from being too seriously aware of itself. The plot becomes more convoluted and over-complicated, feeling like it adds another layer that may or may not be necessa...more

Damali and Carlos are truly soul mates. it's too bad they are on opposite sides of right and wrong and Carlos is in a constant battle to try and keep damali safe from the council and other threats. what he needs to realize is she's neteru and was born to fight this stuff. Carlos' soul is still at risk and it is becoming harder to fight his vampire nature.

I liked the first two books of the series enough to continue reading on... until this one. I couldn't even finish it. The series to me had a lot of potential, so it was really disappointing how much of a let down the third installment was.

I love this book! I simply just love it!! What made me not give it 5 star rating is that some of the story lines dragged on and on but otherwise everything from the action to the dOwn right sexy, I LOVED IT!!!!

Damali is an amazing imaginative character. She is strong and brave, but she is also tender, and loving. This is simply a stunningly well written series and I am addicted! I think you will be too
Alexis
The story, her level of detail, the depth of her world and mythology - just amazing. I hope I still have this series somewhere because I am in the mood to reread it! It was that good.
Brandy
They are good books but sometimes hard to follow. Damali is awesome and Carlos is one hot guy. Jut make sure you pay close attention to the books or else you will be lost.

Were demons and vampires, oh my. I think I liked the setting in this book more than anything. Beyond that there isn't a whole lot for me to report about it.

In my honest opinion this book is where everything sets off, and it becomes one of the greatest series i've ever read.
Melanie
Sexy, entertaining, suspenseful, sexy, engrossing, and sexy are just some of the words to describe this series.

I didn't care for this book at all. Made me think of twilight for gangbangers but to each their own.

It was good, but since I didn't read #1+2 I think that I could have liked it better ;)
Angel
Great author, great books, great series...I will miss her writing!

The books are getting better and better. Minion was very hard to get through - a really hard read. The Awakening was much better. And The Hunted is where I fell completely in love with Carlos. Seriously, that sexy vamp is the one reason to keep reading. Can't wait to read the next one.

Unfortunately the rest of the book isn't as exciting when Carlos isn't there, which thank goodness his story gets more and more time with each book. Without Carlos, Damali and her crew just doesn't have anything th...more
