From our most recent Scholastic book purchase, The Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark by Ken Geist and illustrated by Julia Gorton is our favorite. The book is a cute spoof on the traditional three little pigs story with the pigs replaced by fish and the wolf by a shark.
As the kids are also fans of The Storybook Factory which also retells the story with some singing, we sing certain parts of the book to the same music as the LeapFrog video. Sean and Harriet enjoy singing the book so much th...more

This has to be my all-time favorite read-aloud for this summer's reading theme! I took this book along to my outreach visits to the preschools this year and had such a good time with the "three little pigs and the big bad wolf" concept but with fish and a shark instead. The kids were REALLY into the over-exaggeration of "then along came the BIG...BAD...SHARK!" The houses made of seaweed, sand and eventually a ship let the kids have an opportunity to say whether or not the fish made a wise choice...more
3.5 stars. This is a pretty standard retelling of The Three Little Pigs, but setting this tale in this undersea world opened up new doors of creativity for this story, and that made it fun to read. The kids and I liked the various homes that the little fish created in their undersea world, and the fate of the Big Bad Shark was also unexpected, and certainly funnier than the fate of the Big Bad Wolf. My nephew really enjoys variations of The Three Little Pigs, and the aquatic setting, coupled wit...more
Such a cute book!!! Great if you are doing a lesson along with the three little pigs, a great story that most kids like. This book was great because it was a different kind of story but it follows the same story line, instead of (by the hair of my chinny chin chin) it becomes (not my the skin of my finny fin fin)and of course they like that they know the lines!
In this spoof of The three little pigs, Mama tells her three little fish that it's time to seek their fortunes. Jim builds a house of seaweed and Tim builds a house of sand, but it's up to Kim to find the house that will stop the big bad shark's munching and crunching.
The kids love this twist on the three little pigs. - Marie, Outreach Services

Santi's summer favorite (along with Shark in the Park!).
This books has the same storyline as the Three Little Pigs. I used this book to contrast and compare characters with the Three Little Pigs.
