Recommends it for: anyone writing an essay on Shakespeare and the development of the English Nation.

Actually, not bad! Rackin's got some interesting points on how history worked for Shakespeare and his contemporaries, and relates that to current historiography trends. However, she does have a tendency to repeat herself, and sometimes states the obvious. At other times she gets needlessly complicated! While I can understand her desire to find the voices of women in Shakespeare's plays, I found that chapter pretty unneccessary.
