I hated this book.I hated the hero.I hated his brat.I hated everybody but the heroine, and her I pitied for having these other morons around.

Well. Now I feel like I kicked a puppy because everybody told me to read this book and that it would be wonderful.
It was beautifully written, sure.
And it had a lot of scenery change that consumed a big chunk of time, while other HR usually happen in a matter of days,or if they do not,we just get a FIVE WEEKS LATER insert and then the More...

Wow! This book was very good. For once I loved the heroine! Plus the hero had some very dark parts of his personality that needed to be worked through.

The book starts out explaining how the Marquess of Dain became the cynical rake he is today. His father was very cruel to him and his mother ran away leaving him all alone. He is half Italian, so he has a big nose and a very awkward body as a child for which he is tormented mercilessly while at Eton, where his dad sent him when he was More...

Having read this book praised all over the net, I confess I was a bit afraid of being disappointed. In the end, I WAS somewhat disappointed, because it didn´t wowed me as much as I expected. I really liked LOS, but it's not my #1 all-time favorite book.

What I loved:

1- The hero and the heroine, Jessica and Dain, were not like the standard characters so common in historical romances, that is, the gorgeous hero and the naive heroine. From the beginning, I was captivated by chara More...

I absolutely loved Lord of Scoundrels. This was my first reading of a Loretta Chase novel, and I will definitely be seeking out other books written by her in the future. Jessica was an extraordinary heroine who had a near perfection that one does not often find in a romance novel. Independent heroines can often become irritating to me, but Jessica was a thorough delight, a wonderful mix of charm, wit, strength, and heartfelt devotion. In spite of his ut More...

I loved, loved, LOVED this book! I loved the lead characters, I loved the bit of intrigue, I loved the author's writing style, I loved knowing what was in the hero's, as well as the heroine's heads, I loved the witty repartee, I loved that the HEA was long enough and very satisfying ... can you tell I was really enamored of this book? I won't even bother to give any details, as I am probably the last woman on the planet (that reads romances, anyway) who hadn't read it! Thank you, all you ladi More...

I have to say that this was my first Loretta Chase romance, and though it didn't put me off the author completely, I definitely did not enjoy it as most everyone else seems to have. People seem to adore this book and I guess I just missed the boat on that one. Lord of Scoundrels was not at all horrible, though, which is why I plan to read more Loretta Chase before I make a definite decision on this author. As one other reviewer wrote, there was just something missing ... he was (mostly) great, s More...

This is my favorite book of all time. Great hero, heroine, story, humor, romance, angst. Perfect except I didn't want it to end. I fell in love with Dain from the moment of his birth. He was an ugly baby, loved only by his dearest mother, who was taken away from him. He was horribly treated by others growing up because of his half-Italian heritage and his large nose and ungainly features. Not knowing love, he felt he was unworthy of being loved. As an adult, he lived a life of selfish pleas More...

I hardly know what to say about this one. I haven't read too many historicals in the past year, but boy oh boy, maybe I should start! This book had me totally riveted! The story, the witty dialogue, the oh-so-complicated hero, the take-no-guff heroine, the whole love/hate thing between the H/h--it was at times funny, sad, frustrating, but there was never a dull moment. At times I felt sooo sorry for Dain, who grew up unwanted and unloved, but other times I wanted to slap him upside the head More...

A neat historical romance! Nicely written. Very entertaining. The two main characters, Jessica and Sebastian (Dain) were wonderful. Dain was unwanted and unloved as a child and grew up believing he was the ugliest man on earth. Jessica was his spot of sunshine who had quick wit, intelligence and a wonderful sense of humor.

There wasn't any suspense, mystery, or murder in this book. Just a good 'ole fashion romance with two characters that grew and developed. My heart went out More...

5 Stars...I LOVE it!!!

I'll be honest and say that going into this I was a little worried. I've been let down so many times because my hopes are set so high because of all the "hoopla" surrounding certain books...But let me tell you I wasn't let down...not one bit!

Chase created some of the most memorable characters I think I've ever read about. And unlike most times the characters where equally liked; quite often I lean towards one more then the other, but that More...

This is absolutely one of my favorites of all time. I loved Dain and Jessica from the start and was rooting for them the whole time. Jess is at the to top of my fav heroine list right now. I loved the way she handled Dain, and the way she managed him without him even knowing it. My heart ached for Dain and his loveless childhood, and I couldn't wait until he realized that Jessica really did love him and that he was deserving of it.

I found quite a bit of this book funny and I laughe More...

This is the first historical romance I've read, and probably one of only five romances I've read in total. I have always kept away from the Romance genre because I believed the heroines were feeble and rather pathetic and could only exist in life if they had a man, hence my affection for the kiss-arse chicks you find so readily in urban fantasy, but I have always enjoyed romance movies and I am very much a romantic at heart, so it was time to put aside my misconceptions and explore.

Wow. I haven't had so much fun reading a romance novel in a long time. I absolutely loved this book.

If you like believable tortured heroes and witty heroines, good dialogue and a storyline that will keep you up till 5 in the morning, like it did me, then this is the book for you

Sebastian Dane had a horrible childhood - his mother left him, his father ignored him at best, and he grew up unloved and believing he was ugly. Classic symptoms for the cold hearted notorious rake More...

So I picked up Loretta Chase's Lord of Scoundrels solely because the Smart Bitches love it so much. Seriously, they really, really love it. Like, 'why don't you marry it' levels of love. And you know what? I kinda do, too.

With almost any romance novel, trying to describe the plot can become an exercise in feeling silly. I mean really, we all know what's going to happen: boy meets girl, sparks fly, complicating factors of various degrees occur, then love triumphs in the end. An More...

Suggested to me by a wise romance fiction guru, this book is in my top ten PERIOD. I've read it more than a few times, and if I pick it up and start... I'm going to read the WHOLE thing all over again. I love it that much.

The hero of our story is a bit of a beast (in all ways), the heroine a strong and stubborn spinster I couldn't help but fall in love with. When I read this book for the first time I really understood what a great romance novel was all about.

Realizing I More...

Alright! I loved it. Everyone said I would and I did. I loved Dain the tortured hero! I laughed out loud several times and even shed a tear a couple of times. I couldn't put it down all day (good thing my boss wasn't around) It had all the great aspects a romance novel should have. I have learned my lesson. Now I just feel foolish that it took me so long to read it. Stupid book cover prejudice. Seriously, someone should talk to Ms. Chase's publishers about a new cover reissue.

Lord of Scoundrels is a good old fashioned Historical Romance with well developed characters who I fell in love with. I absolutely LOVED the hero, who is so well written, I could see numerous plotlines for him. The heroine is feisty and smart, with a certain amount of lust that modern women just get. Good book- if Historical Romance is what you're looking for! 4.5 out of 5!

After receiving several recommendations on this novel, I decided to give it a try. It was well-received. I cannot explain how much I enjoyed the first half of this novel. I was blown away. I found that after reading it the first time I was a little confused. So I decided to give it another read. Man, the second time is so much better!! That’s what makes a novel so GOOD; One that has many hidden innuendos and doesn’t bore you to tears no More...

This would have been a five star read for me save a few very serious issues I had that I could not get past.

Make no mistake, this book is a page-turner, and I'm very glad I read it. The interaction between the hero and heroine is witty and intense, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The heroine was a tad bit too arrogant and haughty for my taste. I got the impression that she looked down on others too much, and that personality trait is very unappealing to me in anybody. The hero was More...

I wanted to read this forever due to everyone's enthusiasm for the book. And it was...good. Not earth shattering or steam-up-my-glasses but good. I just don't know what to say. Please see Mal's reaction for mine as I closed the book.

Half the time I wanted to beat the crap out of Dain, which seems to be what you should want to do but the oscillation of wanting to hug him or throttle him was not nearly as bad as when he was condesc More...

Lord of Scoundrels starts of great with the sad tale of Dain his youth and upbringing, the tragic events involving his parents, and how this all shaped his character, demeanor and position in life. It's one of the few Romances that starts with the POV of the hero, and immediatly gives the reader insight in what drives and shaped him - because of that I was immediatly inclined to really like this book. And it only got better.

We meet Jessica, an independent and strong-willed 28 year old, More...

With numerous 5 star ratings, this novel has been called a classic, the best romance book EVER and unputdownable. It's recommended on the Amazon Romance forum every single time I visit there and graces the all time Favourites list of many readers. So wildly acclaimed among the readership this novel is that it can come as no surprise that I had great expectations for this book.

Ignore the title. Ignore the cover. In a few weeks I'll change my unheard of 5 star rating, I'll read another by her or too many of her copycats and downgrade this book ... but after giving Raybourne, whom I should have much preferred, an honestly deserved bad mark, I also have to give Chase, whom I had prejudices about because I had known her name (ie. popular) a deserved 5 stars. There is NOTHING to hate in this book. Every single cloying grating horrid trope from genre romance isn't there. I More...

FINALLY!!! I read this book. My message board has been mentioning this book on and off for several months. I really liked this book. I love books that have witty, antagonistic banter between the H/H. They really went back and forth and that just built up this need in both of them to just be together because being apart didn't work. I loved how she just didn't yes him do death and really stuck up for herself. Great read! I am so glad I got around to reading this one!

Sept, 2011. another reread. I adore this book.

Every few months I get the urge to re-read this novel. I started it thinking about it on Thursday and knew by Friday that I had to pick it up. No matter how many times I read it I'm still completely delighted by it.

Both Jessica and Dain are wonderful characters, but it's really Jessica who steals the show. She's an amazing heroine.
