This book is awesome. It's originally in Basque, by famous Basque author Bernardo Atxaga (pen name of Joseba Irazu Garmendia). His books have been translated into 30+ languages, this one into about a dozen -- and I don't think English is one of them yet! The Esperanto version was translated with the help of the original author and, other than the Spanish version, is the only version translated directly from the Basque (all the others are translations of translations).

The title, in English, would

Originala behintzat bada, eta euskera nahiko oparoa eta aberatsa dela esan beharra dago.

Hala ere, luzeegia edota astunegia iruditu zait irakurtzerakoan, orrialde bat amaitzeko denbora dexente eman behar izan dut, azalpen luze samarrak, elkarrizketa gutxi... Gainera euskera nahasian erabiltzen ditu, eta alde batetik aberastasuna islatzen du idazleak, hainbat euskalki ezberdin menperatzen dituela susma daitekeelako. Beste aldetik, ordea, batueraz izan beharko liratekeela uste dut, horrela irakurt

There are some quotes that could be saved, but this is a boring story and it doesn't a good plot.
I don't recommend it at all.

Maybe I would like it more if I could understand Basque. The Spanish version mixed with some French is easy to read, glad that they're similar languages. The story is kinda simple, a bit sarcastic, not bad for reading before bed.

Bernardo Atxaga (Joseba Irazu Garmendia, Asteasu, Guipúzcoa, 1951) belongs to the young group of Basque writers that began publishing in his mother language, Euskera, in the Seventies. Graduated in Economics for the Bilbao University, he later studied Philosophy at the University of Barcelona.

His first short story, Ziutateaz was published in 1976 and his first book of poetry Etiopia in 1978. Both
