‘Go, kiss the world’ were Subroto Bagchi’s blind mother’s last words to him. These words became the guiding principle of his life.

Subroto Bagchi grew up amidst what he calls the ‘material simplicity’ of rural and small-town Orissa, imbibing from his family a sense of contentment, constant wonder, connectedness to a larger whole and learning from unusual sources. From humbl...more

I'm not much into management sorts of books, and considering that this was quite interesting.

A narration by Bagchi about his life from which he drew out the lessons that he had learned along the way. Hence, the nuggets of wisdom that he has sprinkled through the book is not applicable just for work and for managers, but even to life itself.

Not a lot things that one won't already know. However, he has this way of wrapping up those things in quirky sentences and it appealed to me. Also, it is he...more

"Go Kiss the world" by Subroto Bagchi is nice book to read not only for person from IT industry but for person from any other professional world.

What I liked about the book is the way he has elaborated his journey from villages in Orissa to boardrooms of New Jersy / Banglore. This is not a book about how MindTree started and its journey but this book is about Subroto Bagchi's life experiences. Its interesting to read how he got such a varied experience in Operations, Sales, Marketing, General M...more

This is the second book by Subroto Bagchi after “The high performance entrepreneur”. Bagchi walks us through his journey from a small village boy to a co-founder of one of the first VC funded IT start-ups in India. He narrates the story from when he was a child, his siblings, their upbringing, the jobs that he did, his stint at Wipro and finally setting up MindTree. The narration is done with a personal touch. Out of his three books, this must be the author’s favorite. The title “Go kiss the wor...more

Subroto has one important message for the current generation about to start their careers - do not overplan. As Rabbi Sherre Hirsch says "We Plan, God laughs". God does laugh even at Subroto every now and then, and to overcome this he shows how a heads down approach has worked very well for him, and should work for most of us too.

One flaw in the book from my perspective is that even Subroto falls prey to presenting his DCM experience with a senior manager as a "I'm right, and he was wrong" view....more

Liked he first few pages. :)
I saw a lot of ethics and strength related talks in the book. Very good phases like "Open you Mind before you open your mouth", "When you choose the way, you also choose the consequences". All very correct and appealing.
But here is my personal experience with MindTree. We joined Moto after our engg and some 5 person from my same batch were given joining in MidTree. First their joining was delayed and then were told that for next 6 months they will be paid 6K and then...more

It is a book filled with nuggets of wisdom, and it is inspiring to read about his journey from a very modest beginning to being a co-founder of a successful company. But I'd have preferred if he had elaborated on the mistakes he made in his life (which seem very few if you read this book) and the lessons he learned from it. It would make it more truthful and appealing to me.
Verdict: Definitely a good read, could have been better.

"Decided to read because I'd read Subroto's columns in TOI long ago. They were generally about leadership, management and entrepreneurship. Though I do not remember the exact contents of those columns, I remember liking them then. SO picked up Subroto's this book to read. Found awesome practical advice on corporate life, entrepreneurship, leadership, and life in general in this book. Will hold it dear for life.

Thanks Subroto!"

How a middle-class person went all the way through his journey to be one of the co-founders of MindTree. It was simple to read and the way he shared the lessons that he learnt from his life is very good. The book is not about his company but as a part of his journey, he covered the part of MindTree days as well. The author described many people whom he was influenced with and their personalities, the values that they stick to which is good to know about. I would definitely remember the material...more

Fascinating life of Subrato Bagchi presented in a style that feels as though he is sitting next to you telling his story. Beside the style, the content is very interesting (esp if you are in the IT arena as I happen to be) and very lofty .. Hopefully it would inspire a generation to achieve more than settling for just a well paying job.

“Go Kiss the World” is a mixed bag, but it never reaches the mark set by JWelch or Iaccoca. It’s a story about a man with ordinary roots who turned it into an extraordinary life. Subroto Bagchi’s journey is memorable, but unfortunately the book isn’t.

It makes for an interesting read because of it's narrative style, which is simple yet engaging. Though it falls in the "motivational genre", it refrains from adopting "over preaching" approach. What one takes/learns from such books is very subjective but nevertheless it had it's share of learings to impart.

The book is very well thought and very well written. Gives you a feeling of nostalgia. Gives great importance to people, family, values and principles. The author does not brag about himself a lot, which is really good. The book is a must read for anyton who can realte to India and Indian writings

Just finished reading 'Go Kiss The World' by Subroto Bagchi, a renowned name in Indian IT industry, who founded MindTree. Loved the elegant, lucid style of writing. His ability to get the message across, in every chapter, stands out. Doesn't dwell much on individuals or the events, but keeps the story moving at a fast click. His honesty & intent to help readers shines through. A number of his qualities - included that of Gardener, his current role - resonates with self, which made the readin...more

The lessons to take away are many and very true too. But I personally felt that the book isn't well written, the chapters work in SILOS.

Hats off to Mr. Bagchi's mother. 'Have used this phrase several times since then and every time I got 'ohs' and aahs'..

Beautiful book, Story of how a disoriented graduate nurtured himself to be a professional and actually the founder of one of the most respected and admired companies in Indian IT space.

The book has loads of learning on values, ethics, conduct and generally the life for young and established professional. Overall a good read.
