In book one (awakening) of the Casing Yesterday series Robin Wasserman really describes what it might feel like to lose your memory.

In Awakening, 13 year old J.D remembers nothing of her past after the explosion. She knows nothing but the dark visions haunting her dreams. She believes she's in danger because the visions include this voice, telling her to destroy things, and explosions similar to the one that actually happened.

After J.D. is released from the hospital she is taken to The Chester C...more

I think that this book was really interesting. I especially liked the part where she stands up for her supposed friend when this big girl was making fun of him because they all attended a school where people go for problems. The girl started insulting him sayig he was stupid that's why his mother abandoned him. Then the girl started to talk back to the mean one, they started to get into a fight but when the bully attacks she just dodges her punch and ends up punching the bully, she punched the b...more

This says age range 9 to 12. I vote 12 to 16, but what do I know? I think it is perfect for 6th grade readers who are sick of “little kid” books. This for sure is not a “little kid” book!
Thirteen year old JD (short for Jane Doe) wakes up after at the scene of a devastating explosion. She has no memory of her past. She is put in a juvenile home and has to deal with bullying teenagers, terrible nightmares, and loneliness. She meets Daniel and befriends him. She discovers that she has special powe...more

13 year old Jane Doe (J.D. for short) wakes up in the middle of an explossion, with no recolection whatsoever of what occured. Sh doesn't remember anything of her past life. She's completely lost. Suddenly, she starts discovering that strange things are happening to her, things tha she doesnt know how to explain. Everyone's telling her that she's crazy, that it's just an effect from the accident. But, is there something else (some other force) interfering with her mind? In this relatively short...more

Simple, predictable, and great. A teenage girl with powers she doesn’t understand, and a past she can’t remember. There’s plenty of clues to suggest an organization of sinister adults somewhere, but Wasserman creates just enough doubt to keep the unraveling process exciting.

JD has fairly standard “Super-Dangerous When Cornered” syndrome. She follows a standard track of power self-awareness: cue the series opening title. Bonus mystery: JD has very targeted amnesia. She knows all sorts of facts a...more

J.D. (Jane Doe) wakes up in a hospital, straped down and not knowing who she is. The doctors say that she has memory loss and that pieces will fall into place in time, but she still feels as though she is in immense danger. She makes a friend at her brief stay at a child center, but she also starts to doubt her relaity further. J.D. seems to be able to move things with an invisible force and she slips into detailed hallucinations that leave her feeling sick. She's not sure who to trust and she f...more

If you like mysteries, then you should read the book “Awakening” by Robin Wasserman. “Awakening” is the first book in the series “Chasing Yesterday”.
You should read the book “Awakening” because it is a little different. “Awakening” is a book about a girl that was in an explosion and lost her memory. Her name is J.D. and when she leaves the hospital she goes to a juvenile center (it’s like a foster home). She also meets a guy from the center his name is Daniel and they become good friends. Later...more

This book was really fast-paced in my opinion, and the plot was all over the place. I usually don't like third-person books, and I didn't really like this book. It did have a lot of adventure, though, and I will finish the trilogy, since I have them. The author does do a good job, though, of making it seem like this person really doesn't remember anything from her past, just from the past few days. At the Center, she befriends Daniel, and is known as The Freak, but she may have power she doesn'...more

My friend recommended this book to me so I decided to read it. I'm happy I did. This is only the first book, The Awakening, out of the three their are. I'm in the middle of reading this and I can't let go of the book. It's a great suppense and mystery novel. An explosion led a girl, JD, into losing her memory. She was unconscious, unharmed, and unidentified. How did the explosion happen? Where are her parents or friends? Who did it? Why would they do it? As this book slowly progresses I'm sure I'...more

this book was absolutly amazing, alittle creepy but really good, id deff recomend it to anyone. Its about this girl who was in a bombing and is suffering from memory loss and meets this friend Daniel who ends up being the only one she can trust, and the lady who said she was her mom really wasnt and her doctor was really trying to kill her and she had been having dreams about him being "evil" all along but he had convinced her she was crazy and she didnt no what to do. (I'll warn when the spoilers come) This book was REALLY good!! I fell in love with it!!! It was very suspensful and kept me on the edge of my seat the ENTIRE time!! I loved all the characters, espicially towards the climax!! (Spoilers coming!) I got the second book from my library, and put it down. It had gotten freaky and disturbed. It was all like "But I killed her [the mom] first,' and "And glady watched the flames eat the building." Like I said, weird, demmented, and just plain freaky. I did...more

This book is... Freaky and weird. yet its kind of awesome.

I liked bits and pieces. I love Daniel. seriously. I could be his fangirl. he's pretty much the only thing that I really like in this book.

There is the realistic way of how someone would really act without remembering anything. that was good... otherwise...

I was freaked out by the 'everything you've ever know is a lie' stuff. I know that I'm not going to read any other series from this lady. her writing is creepy.

still, it sucked me in, a...more

I believe this book was very good! It showed suspense, a little bit of mystery, and inner conflict. J.D seemed to be a very curious person that followed whatever her heart told her too. J.D's best friend Daniel had helped her throughout the whole book which tells me he is a very generous caring person. I also wonder why Dr.Styron helped that evil women with her horrible plan. I predicted that something suspicious was going on when J.D was talking to the boy on the street about the house she live...more

This is one of those extremely cliche books where the main character has amnesia, but with a twist (it doesn't make the book any better though. The main character goes by the name J.D.. Which she made it so that people at the hospital would stop calling her Jane Doe. She stays at an orphanage for two or three days and leaves when her mother came after seeing her on the T.V.. She goes home and is told her real name is Alexa. She is also told not to talk to her friends or go outside of the house....more

Trying to start writing real reviews so....
Awakening is a book about a young girl who has no idea who she is. I read the first few chapters and then got bored with it. Then I skipped to the end to see what happened (which I've never done before by the way). It just felt so...simple to me. Pretty boring really. I kinda sorta almost got into it but didn't. I went into it wanting to just read it real fast so it wouldn't be on my TBR shelf anymore. I think that's part of why I didn't like it. S...more

All she knows is that she's in a hospital. She doesn't know how she got there, what happened, why it happened, or even her name. She is on every form of news available but no one seems to know who she is or where she came from.

Eventually the physical injuries heal, but no one is any closer to solving the original questions. The hospital has no choice but to release J.D., short for Jane Doe, to a juvenile home. And the other kids aren't thrilled to...more

My book is about this girl she doesn’t know where she is or how she got where she is. She’s confused, lost and scared. She was taken to the hospital, she stayed there a couple of days when she was there she told them to call her J.D because she didn’t remember her name and she didn’t feel like a Jane Doe which is what the staff had been calling her. I would rate this book a 9, because it was a good book and I loved it except one part I got a little confused. But overall is was a great book.

I chose this book because the title caught my attention. An explosion had occured and this girl was found with nobody claming her. When she woke up she didnt remeber anything about her past or about her name. I like the authors writting style because he gave alot of intresting detail and made the story come alive in my eyes. In my point of view the story was very intresting. I would recomend this book to action seeking readers. I recomend this book because its very nerve wracking to read about.

J.D. wakes up to find herself alone, in pain, and worst of all, with no recollection of who she is or where she came from. After recovering physically at a hospital, J.D. is sent to The Chester Center for orphaned or unwanted children. There she befriends Daniel, (a boy with a nice smile and the ability to pick locks) and first begins to experience her strange feelings…burning sensations that run up and down her arms and voices in her mind telling her to destroy.

Interesting book, and it definitely piqued my interest. The character of J.D. is very realistic. I like the way things were able to slowly unfold and she started to get more suspicious, but then started thinking more and more that she was going crazy. I also liked the character of Daniel. Their relationship seems sort of rushed- maybe they just had a connection?- but he was definitely very helpful to J.D.

I worry about them in the next book- it is called Betrayed! I hope Daniel doesn't betray her...more

Suspenseful start to a trilogy (Awakening, Betrayal, Truth). A fitting first book in a series as there is a good deal of build-up leaving the reader to race for the next book to find out what happens next. Lots of questions about this “lost girl.” And, the reader gets to form the questions and discover the answers along with the main characters. Suspense, mystery, search-for-self. Do yourself a favor and get all three books at once so you can read straight through to the end!

So far this book is really good. I'm not to far in the book but I'm far enough to know that it's going to be fantastic. With this book I see m y self as a reader growing. Not growing like hight wise, or reading level wise; growing mind wise. In some of the books I'm reading I'm learning new words and new things a nd how things actually happen to people in life. In this book Jane or should i say. J.D. (Jane Doe) is going trough a really tough time in her life. Her memory loss the explosion and ha...more

A young teenage girl wakes up in the hospital. She can't remember anything about her past, not even her name, so the staff name her Jane Doe, J.D. for short. "Awakening" is about J.D.'s journey trying to find out who she is.First, she spends a few days in the hospital. Then she's sent to a children's home where she befriends a lock-picking guy (girls always fall for the lock-pickers, don't they?) and saves him in a fight (view spoiler)[using some sort of power she has (hide spoiler)]. I was on the edge of my seat with excitement the entire time I was reading this one.

It clearly felt a lot like the Bourne Identity, except it held none of the problems for me that the B.I. did, and so that made me happy.

I would only like it better if it didn't have sequels that I had to chase down, but you can bet that as much as I liked this one I will be looking for those sequels.
