Read the hilarious, candid (and sometimes not-so-nice), diaries of Jamie Kelly, who promises that everything in her diary is true -- or at least as true as it needs to be.

They were just a soft, ordinary pair of thrift-shop jeans until Jamie Kelly tried them on . . . Then they became a tight, scratchy, slightly smelly, and utterly ordinary pair of thrift-shop jeans with an

I'm going to review the series as a whole because there are too many books to do each one. At a mere 100+ pages or so, that would be a lot of writing. But I didn't want to omit telling you about these fabulous books...

They came in to my branch about 2 weeks ago on a Friday afternoon. I had never heard of the "dear dumb diary" series, and I didn't know who Jim Benton was, either (or so I thought). The first thing I noticed were the covers - bright, flaming fluorescent colors: hot pink, neon green

Jamie is a girl that is just like any other teenager. Her friend is Isabella and she is a strong person. Their enemy is Angeline, who is the most popular girl in their school. They envy her because she acts like she is perfect: her clothes are pretty, her hair flows just perfectly, and she looks beautiful.
Recently Jamie hasn't been giving her dog table scraps. So in return her dog ate through her pants. She didn't have many jeans left and she hasn't been that good the next few days so her other

Favorite line: "You are just one rampaging elephant away from marrying the handsomest boy in school."

And if it wasn't for the fact that the rampaging elephant had to make said boy ugly by squishing his face so that he could be low enough on the popularity scale to date Jamie, it would have been laugh-out-loud-worthy. I know I shouldn't be all worried about the book's "message" (because I really do get that it's a goofy, make-fun-of-yourself type read), but I really can't stand Jamie's obsession

Jamie Kelly is an average middle school student who lets us all have a look into her "dumb diary" however not before warning us that we may get get caught by her "surveillance sting". She prides herself on hers and best friend Isabella's mid popularity, although beware Jamie's sharp tongue if you happen to be a pretty popular girl named Angelina.

In the second book of the series we see Jamie's life turned upside down as Isabella claims Jamie's new jeans are haunted. It seems the jeans have caused

Jammie is our main character in the book Dear Dumb Diary My pants are Haunted. Jamie “Hates” her dog stinker. Her best friend is isabella and her worst enemy is this girl named Angeline. She is very jealous of Angeline. Jaminnes crush is Hudson Rivers he is the 8 th cutest boy in her grade. In this series of books her best friend isabella thinks her pants are haunted and that it's not her who made her less popular it was the pants and it's not her that accidentally farted in front of hudson rive ...more

Imagine a person having haunted pants. Jamie Kelly was a normal girl with a normal life until her dog stinker (her dog) was all the sudden started eating her pants. Jamie’s best friend Isabella, was type of girl who causes trouble, sometimes. Any Jamie finally got a gift from the heavens sitting by her crush Hudson…
But one piece of homework and a scary movie ruined it all… Isabella and Jamie went to the mall, with Margaret for a makeover, while she was there Jaimie’s mom finally bought J

What kind of childrens book os this?
For a book starting off pretty normal, with the main character, the handsome guy, the popular school girl villain and a weird family, this book takes a dark turn.
Though this book has it's moments, the main character implies ideas such as making a zoo for all the outcast at school (with an illustrations of outcasts behind a thick stone wall) and the "beautiful thought"; you are just one wild elephant away fom marrying the most handsome guy at school. Yeah, you

Three stars just for the title!

Seriously, this was a fun book, quick to read, with a lot of humor. The belief that jeans are haunted was silly and yet sincere. The diary format is fun to read, and makes this book not too threatening for someone who's struggling with reading to pick up. The series is worth pursuing if you have a child with reading issues that you just want to see crack open a book.

Jamie Kelly returns with more laughs and more middle school adventures.Today will find Jamie accusing her own dog of chewing her jeans and gaining 20 pounds. (The dog is planning revenge as we speak.) Then she has to endure the indignity of broken lab bottles, broken promises and the ever-gam Angeline, who makes Kendra Wilkinson seem like Little Bo Peep by comparison. She even gets in touch with her BFF over tension-filled issues, like: how to exorcise Demon Denims thru karate kicks and washing ...more

This book was not my favorite out of the three. I felt the story line was not quite my cup of tea but Jamie Kelley still remains to be the hilarious and quirky character she always has been. Her idea and theories about people she goes to school with every time, like the most handsome boy Hudson Rivers. This humors me because when she describes Hudson he seems to be this kid with greasy hair and dirty clothes, but ironically he is the most handsome boy in all of seventh grade. Middle school, gott ...more

Dear Dumb Diary is written by Jim Benton. The main charecter is Jamie Kelly. The setting is in Mackerel Middle school. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read funny books. This book is about how Jamie Kelly has the most popular and prettiest girl in the school not like her at all. Angeline is so pretty that she is at the top of the popularity level. When Jamie and her friend Isabella bring the not so pretty girl named Margaret to the mall, the next day she comes in school looking like ...more
I understand this book is more so for the 'laughs' and not all about seriousness, yet I couldn't overlook the message it was sending out. All the characters were stereotyped, such as 'Nerds that don't have hearts but instead have brains' because people who are remotely intelligent are automatically soul-less. However, that wasn't too big of a problem for me. It was mostly the fact that the main character, who could be seen as a role model, is only worried about her popularity and how she is seen ...more

My pants are Haunted

The book is all about this girl called jamie kelly that is in the terrible middle school and she is strogling her life out of there. Jamie has a very mean enemie (or that is as she says) called Angeline, a crush named Hudson River and a dog named Stinker. Now Jamie has this diary that she writes on and expresses her feelings on, she loves this diary and if someone took it from her she would dye! This book talks about many many things but it all

i think this book is going to be about a girl who writes in her diary about school and her outside life. On the cover she is holding glowing pants and her mouth is wide open, it has a green background a pink boarder up one side of the book. I also think it is going to be about her getting new pants but they turn out to be haunted.

Its about a girl named Jamie Kelly. She has a dog called stinker and her mother and father and the rest of her school friends. Her dog Stinker ripped holes in her pants

Dear Dumb Diary: My pants are haunted!
By: Jim Benton.

This is the second book of the series Dear Dumb Diary, as you know the main character Jamie Kelly continues writing funny stuff on her diary. On this book appear two new characters; Margaret and sally: Margaret is an ugly pencil eater, not really popular in her class, Until Jamie and Isabella make her a super makeover that raised her popularity, even beyond Angelines. But that didn’t last too much time. About Sally, she stole Isabellas top sec

A book about the girl's life with a bunch of humor in it. This is when she watches a movie about how a girl's pants were haunted. She then assumes after all the weird occurrences with her pants, that after watching the movie, her pants got scared and became haunted. this was one of the first Dear Dumb Diary books I read, it made me really want to read the other books. They even made a second series! I look forward to reading the second series.

This book was my favorite in the series, because of the plot twists at the end. Its different re-reading it because I already know what's going to happen and what picture is coming next, so it's a lot easier to not let myself stay up late reading it like I used to. I still really enjoy all the "off to the side jokes" though. I read a few aloud to my family and they thought they were hilarious.

Amy Brantner, 128 pages. This is a funny book, that I would recommend to anyone who wants to have a good laugh! This book is about a girl named Jamie who gets a new pair of pants, and then a whole lot of bad luck comes. First, she and her best friend Isabella do a big makeover on a "gerd" (girl nerd,) named Margaret. The next day, Margaret is really pretty, and Jamie and Isabella get pushed down on the popularity line. Plus, Hudston Rivers (Jamie likes him,) acts like he likes how pretty Margare ...more

This is about this is a girl named jamie and she writes about her life in her diary. She over exaggerates everything. Jamie has crazy things in her life. I liked this book. The first book in this series was full of kid-humor. I understood why some parents objected, but I thought it was funny.

This second book, however, was everything I want my daughter to avoid: mean-spirited nature and focus on weight and appearances. What was funny in the first book seemed cruel in the second.
Jamie wants to be popular and when she goes to the mall to "glam up" her friend she finds a pair of jeans that she has always wanted she buys them. But later she thinks they are haunted. And when her pencil chewing friend gets more popular than Angeline, Jamie knows something is wrong.

I I were eight years old, I would probably find My Pants are Haunted to be really hilarious, but reading it now, I've noticed that not only is the main character really self-centered, melodramatic and unlikable, but a lot f her story's content doesn't make any sense.

Dear Dumb Diary: My Pants are Haunted is about a girl named Jamie Kelly and her friend Isabella who try to give Jamie's lab partner, Margret Parker, a makeover so she can get higher on the popular list and so they can look cooler around her. The makeover works and everybody stares at Margaret in awe. Isabella has a plan to become more popular by making a super smelling perfume, but suddenly the jar goes missing. What do you think happens next? Read the book to find out.

I am afraid I don't agree with most other readers who have reviewed this book and rated it high. Maybe Jamie, the main character, and I just don't click. In the course of the book I found her often self-centered and annoying with little compassion for others. Her main concern is her own popularity. While I know that popularity is a big issue when you are entering middle school, I wish there had been different perspectives about it in this book. But then, maybe I am just from a different generati ...more

Benton, Jim. My Pants are Haunted. (2004)

Contemporary Realistic Fiction; great for beginning chapter book readers

Annotation: Jamie Kelly writes away about everyone and everything happening at school. She tells the truth, well the truth as she sees it. She gets a new pair of pants that suddenly changes how she is seen at school, and they may upset the order of the school. At least that's what she thinks.

Themes: character development, friends, labels put on people, humor

Ideas: Great for read alou

I just read this, at the age of 18, and i absolutely enjoyed it. Very entertaining and highly recommended for all middle schoolers. One thing i would criticise about it is the labeling, younger folks will probably label people after reading all these labelled people in the book.
