The first volume of Alexandre Dumas' two-part interpretation of the story of Robin Hood, popularized for Nineteenth Century audiences by Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe, set in England in 1162-66.
In this book, Dumas tells the story of Robin Hood's youth: how he is delivered by an unknown man to be raised by poor but honest foresters, his great skill as an archer, how he comes...more

When I was in year three I had a wonderful teacher who would bring a book from home and read a few chapters of it to us as a treat everyday. Robin Hood was one of these books, after he read it to us, he put it on our tiny bookcase in the room for anyone to read. I devoured it about four times over after he had finished it for the class. Brilliant book.

I found this old out of print Dumas version of Robin Hood at the Central Brooklyn library. It was so old I often had to be careful not to damage the pages while I was turning them. It's the first of a two part series that he wrote in 1872, this version was published in 1920. It's apparently one of his least recognized books because it took some research to find out anything about it; it's not listed on biographical websites.
The story is another tale of that worthy forester called Robin Hood, I...more

I LOVED Robin Hood and everything I could find about his legend when I was a child. Although this book was made into several movies (and most notably was the origin material for Errol Flynn's Robin Hood,) it does stray pretty far from the original material concerning Hood's legend.

Another childhood hero of mine. I haven't read the book since, and haven't liked any of the movies as an adult. For me Robin Hood wasn't a political figure. He was just a wild, free, man in the forest, living as he pleased, with some cool friends and a pretty girl.

This book is written Alexandre Dumas this book has a lot of adventure and drama. My favorite part was when he tried to show the guy that he was a good archer and he hit the dear dead center in the target and the guy was surprised this book is GREAT!!!.

I knew the folklore of Robin Hood, but Dumas created a new character in itself; A Robin Hood that was darker, meaner and more fascinating than even before. Loved it; Read it at the risk of doing miserably in my Vivas but was totally worth it.

WE enjoyed this one quite a bit. However, I sold it to the kids as the book about the guy who steals from the rich to give to the poor, but that doesn't even happen in the book. He does steal from the rich...but they keep the loot! I felt a bit jipped.

Read this when i was very young and i remember it was a hard but interesting read back then. As all of the books Dumas wrote, a stroke of genius. Really need to revisit.

Classic. One of the earliest book that got me into reading stories. Loved the adventure of Robin Hood and his stands against the sheriffs.
