When I started Scream for me by Karen Rose, I didn’t know I was in for a nerve-racking, nail-biting read from start to finish. The fast paced storyline and interesting dialog kept me on the edge of my seat. I read through this book quickly without being able to put it down for long intervals of time, so I neglected things like walking the dog and much needed sleep…but it was well worth it because I HAD to see how it ended!

Alex Fallon’s life has been filled with sorrow and death. Thirteen years ago, her twin sister was raped and murdered. Her mother not being able to handle the brutal death and loss of her daughter, commits suicide soon after. When her Aunt insists she move to Ohio with her, she is forced to leave her hometown in Dutton, Georgia, and her step-sister Bailey behind, to escape the horrible loss of her loved ones.

When Alex gets a surprising phone call from social services informing her that Bailey has disappeared, and has left her four year old daughter, Hope alone, she is stunned. Knowing that Bailey is incapable of leaving Hope behind, unless something is terribly wrong, Alex immediately returns to Dutton, and the memories she has tried to evade all of these years. She finds Hope traumatized and in shock. Since she is incapable of talking, Bailey’s disappearance becomes a mystery and a race against time to solve.

Special Agent Daniel Vartanian has just returned from a two week leave of absence. His brother was linked to have murdered seventeen people, including his parents. He is given the assignment to investigate the murder and rape of a woman from the town of Arcadia, Georgia. When his investigation leads him to Dutton, he finds some startling similarities between his case, and the murder of Alex’s sister years ago.

When Daniel and Alex meet, they realize that they are both desperately trying to find the answers to hunting down the killer, and solving the disappearance of Bailey. As they continue to work together, and Alex’s life becomes in jeopardy, they are both drawn into a web of mystery, danger and a love that neither were looking for.

I found that both Daniel and Alex both complex characters and the development of their relationship was very intriguing to read. Both have their demons they must deal with, but they come together as a team, and fight the good fight. This is not a book you can skip through. It can be quite complex and very intense at times. Although, I believe that Scream for Me can be read as a stand alone book, there are a lot of references to the previous book in the series, Die For Me that might not be completely understood without reading it first.

Oh, this is going to be difficult describing this book, because there are so many characters to keep straight, and so many twists and turns, that sometimes it was downright confusing! But if you can hang in there for about the first 100 pages, things start to make sense, everything falls into place and things get rolling, and by then this book was un-put-downable!

This is a story about disfunctional families, betrayal, guilt, and regrets. It seems that every character in this story had regrets or guilt about something they had done or had failed to do.

The chief 'regretter' was Special Agent Daniel Vartanian of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, who was first introduced in Karen Rose's previous book, "Die For Me". Daniel was the brother of the villain of that book, serial killer Simon Vartanian, who met his demise one week before this story begins.

Daniel is still getting over the drama suurounding Simon's death and is barely back at work, when he starts investigating what appears to be copycat murders of a crime that took place 13 years ago in his hometown of Dutton, Georgia. Daniel is still feeling guilty over what he knew about his brother Simon and how his father, a prominent judge, helped cover up Simon's past crimes. He regrets that he didn't come forward sooner to the authorities and tell all he knew about Simon. But now there is a new murderer on the loose, and these murders are linked to something sinister that Simon was involved with in his youth. Daniel vows to find the culprit, and nothing will stop him, even if he has to face the demons of the past that continue to haunt him.

While investigating the crimes, he falls for Alex Fallon, a beautiful nurse with a link to one of the victims from 13 years ago. Alex has a dark past filled with regrets, not unlike Daniel. Alex is in Georgia because her step-sister Bailey has gone missing, and she's looking after Hope, her traumatized 4 yr. old niece. Has Hope witnessed something that led to her mother's disappearance? Is Bailey a victim of this new copycat murderer? And how do the prominent citizens of this small Georgia town factor in to the murders? How many secrets and lies can Daniel uncover before it's too late and his and Alex's life are threatened?

As I was reading this book I kept thinking, 'Oh, this would make a good movie!'--it had so many twists and turns and would make a great thriller! If you like a good suspense book that really makes you think, with a touch of hot, steamy romance thrown in, then this is your book! My only complaint was that there wasn't enough of the romantic scenes between Daniel and Alex! But when Karen Rose put them together, they were steamy! She can really steam up the pages--she just needs to give you more!
I had no problems with the plot or the suspense aspect of the book--both were first rate! She dropped just enough hints to keep you guessing, but not quite enough for you to figure out who the ultimate villain was (there actually was more than one)! And, she left the door wide open for a continuation of the story, which looks to be about Daniel's sister Susannah, and his fellow agent, Luke. That is a book I will be looking forward to reading! All in all, another top notch effort by Karen Rose!(less)

First off...great book. Loved it. Secondly...damnit it! I don't want to wait almost a year for the continuation of the series!

Once I started reading Scream For Me I couldn't put it down. From the first page I was hooked on the story. It doesn't have the pulse-pounding, dark intensity and creepiness that Die For Me had, but the storyline is very engaging. I spent the whole book sorting through the details, trying to put the pieces together and figure out who did what and when an...moreFirst off...great book. Loved it. Secondly...damnit it! Once I started reading Scream For Me I couldn't put it down. From the first page I was hooked on the story. I spent the whole book sorting through the details, trying to put the pieces together and figure out who did what and when and why. Rose kept me into the story for the entire book. When the end rolled around, I was still just as interested as I was in the beginning and even though I'd figured out a lot of the plot there were still a few surprises.

Scream For Me isn't meant for a quick or casual read, though. It's got a lot of characters, a lot of bit and pieces. If you're not paying attention, not fully engaged in reading it, I can imagine it would be easy to get confused or lost. There's just so much going on. You have to be into the story for it to make sense.

And though the book can pretty much stand alone, it is better if Die For Me is read first because there are a lot of references to the previous book. Simon's evilness can't be fully appreciated unless you read Die For Me.

One of my favorite parts of the book was the character of Alex. She's a fantastic strong, tough heroine. But she doesn't let that strong control allow her act stupid. I can't count the number of books I've read where the heroine's need to be strong and independent lets her act super stupid. But Alex doesn't. She's a strong, spunky heroine, but still smart enough to know when to listen to what Daniel is telling her.

Overall, I have not a single complaint for the book. I loved the characters, loved the romance, loved the plot. Everything made sense and was interesting. And I'm dying to read the next book in the series. I really want to know the full story of Susannah and I think a potential romance between her and Luke would be good to read. I'll be anxiously waiting for Kill For Me.(less)

Alex Fallon returns to her hometown, Dutton, Georgia, after a thirteen year absence when her stepsister, Bailey, goes missing. Alex steps in to care for Bailey's obviously traumitized four year old, Hope. While she searches for Bailey, Alex has to deal with traumatic memories that being in Dutton triggers. One day thirteen years ago, her twin sister was murdered in Dutton, and later the same day, her mother committed suicide by shooting herself. Alex's response to the situation caused her to be hospitalized and she hasn't been back in town since her aunt and uncle took her to Ohio after her release.

Daniel Vartanian is still trying to deal with the knowledge that his brother, Simon, whom he believed to be dead, has killed numerous people, including their parents. A week ago, Daniel was present when Simon was finally killed by a Philadelphia policeman. When a young woman is found murdered in rural Georgia, Daniel is called back early from a leave of absence. As he begins to investigate, Daniel finds eerie similarities to the murder of Alicia Tremaine in Dutton thirteen years ago. Daniel soon meets Alex Fallon, Alicia's twin sister. Daniel and Alex are immediately attracted, and they quickly find that they genuinely like one another. As murders continue to happen and to copycat Alicia's murder, Daniel must find how the events happening now are connected to the past as well as to Simon. He is determined to keep Alex safe, and their relationship continues to develop. Both Alex and Daniel must learn to deal with events in their pasts so that they can overcome the dangerous situation they are facing.

I loved this romantic suspense novel. The story was very compelling and kept me intrigued. I liked the interaction between the hero and heroine and enjoyed the ways in which they provided emotional support for one another. I look forward to reading about Daniel's sister, Susannah, and his colleague, Luke, in the next book. This series has quickly become one of my favorites.(less)

Someone is determined to set the record straight, expose a small-town’s secrets, others are equally determined to keep those secrets intact. By all means. Even murder.

Okay, I need to just breathe for a moment, here, because this novel was intense. Ooh, boy. This small trilogy inside a larger (loosely-connected) series is proving to be one heck of a ride. It all started with Simon’s reappearance (and the reappearance of the pictures) in Die For Me, continues with Daniel’s story (and a small resolution regarding those pictures) in Scream For Me, and will apparently come to a grand finale with Susannah’s story (those pictures and Daniel’s investigation sure opened a big can of worms) in Kill For Me.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start at the beginning, or in this trilogy’s case, in the middle.

This was yet another 5+ star read in this winner-streak by Karen Rose. Chilling suspense, wonderfully dark secrets, great pacing, wonderful characters (leading and supporting cast), intrigue, drama, romance, angst, thrills, chills…You name it, this book has it.
This was yet another example of great “small-town” fiction. I sure am glad to be living in a city, because those dreadful small-towns where everybody knows your name, no one locks their doors and everybody knows everybody else’s secrets are starting to creep me out. Quaint and homey, but hiding such rot underneath the nice veneer. *shiver* Ms. Rose depicted small-town Dutton’s secrets, Georgia with masterful aplomb, gruesome and chilling details, and goose-bumps-raising “honesty”.

And she’s not done, oh no. Because it appears the first two books in this Vartanian trilogy were just an appetizer to what comes next, and I can’t wait to start.

The main story, the suspense, the drama, and the thriller was so engaging, I wouldn’t have minded if Ms. Rose forgot to thrown some romance into the mix. Well, she hasn’t forgotten, and while I always say this in my reviews for Ms. Rose’s novels, in this book, what happened between Alex and Daniel sure did take my mind off the other stuff going on, providing a much needed breather. Because this wasn’t simple entertainment like her previous books were (despite the theme), this was a rather “heavy” book and those lighter pauses sure helped.

Disappointed. This is book #2 in what looks like a trilogy though the author doesn't have them set up that way on her website. You should read "Die for Me" first because the crimes overlap, characters come from there, and the villains in this one were all connected to Simon (villain from Die for Me). The way this one ended, tells me that the next will connect even further and will be about Savannah and Luke only going more into child porn/rape.

Another fast-paced read with a good balance of romance and suspense. Rose is about the only RS author on my radar that gives me the balance I like. Her romance is strong but the suspense/mystery is stronger yet the former is never overwhelmed.

As usual Rose's books are an interesting mix of suspense and romance, she pays equal attention to both of them and that works very well for me even when she deals with gritty subjects. One must mention that these stories are not for the faint of heart as her villains are really bad guys.

Daniel Vartanian goes back to investigate a crime his brother committed while still in high school, a series of rapes of young girls. It's clear that more young men were involved and he soon finds out Alex Fallon's sister was one of their victims. Rose successfully creates a small town atmosphere where everyone could be guilty and most seem to know everyone else's secrets and feel they have a right to judge. I really disliked all the time spent there but I think that was Rose's intention. You know those bad horror movies where you know something bad is going to happen and you feel like screaming at the screen: don't go there? Well, for a while I kept screaming at Alex to just get out of there and go home, but of course that couldn't happen could it?

While investigating Simon and his friends past crimes and how they link to Alex's cousin disappearance, Alex and Daniel uncover a new crime organization that's kidnaps girls and sells them for prostitution. They solve the old crime but this new one is clearly set up to continue in the next book. In fact it almost felt like the two books were one and if you are planning to read this trilogy that is better done in a row, especially book 2 and 3.

While I did like the story I felt it lacked a bit of closure and that the small town, Dutton, felt a bit too corrupt, too dirty. I certainly hope nothing like this exists in real life where all the powers seem involved with the bad guys.

I did like Daniel and Alex, even if I felt they fell in love a bit too quickly. But as usual Rose writes strong, courageous and interesting characters and one can't but enjoy they're developing relationship.

This was book 2 in a series with Agent Daniel Vartanian, but it read well as a stand alone. The first book, Die For Me, I have on reserve at our library, so that should tell you that I really enjoyed this book!

If you’re interested in dysfunctional families then this is the romantic mystery for you. Alex Tremaine’s identical twin sister was found murdered several years ago and the crime remains an unsolved mystery. This book falls into the genre of “romantic suspense.” It was interesting to realize that if you excised all the scenes involving "romantic" encounters between "ruggedly handsome" Daniel Vartanian and "beautiful, full-lipped" Alexandra “Alex” Fallon, you’d still have a pretty good suspense novel AND not really notice the difference.

Review for the Vartanian trilogy by Karen Rose: Die For Me, Scream For Me and Kill For Me.
Karen Rose creates my favorite type of novels, romantic suspense- and she does them well. Since I recently discovered her, I have been devouring every book that I could find.
Romance: I do love the heroes in Rose's books, and the relationships are always sexy and utterly romantic while still being realistic enough to enthrall the reader. The romance is the authors strong point.

I read this book following "Scream for me": I didn't like the first very much, and I liked this even less, pretty much for the same reasons:

-the characters are so unreal: the baddies are so bad and the goodies are so good that is just not right; I think the author has some personal issues that reflect in her books, because in both of them, the main male characters (policemen) are hot, sweet, considerate... just perfect!, and same with the main female: beautiful, smart... ever...more

Loved It! Full of suspense, action, a little romance. Daniel Vartanian just came back to work after the death of his parents. They were murdered by his serial killer brother Simon, who is now dead. WOW, Karen Rose has created a sickly twisted plot so engrossing that I found it very difficult to put this book down. She blends and weaves the elements of suspense and terror so well that I had to remind myself that the killer was fictional, and I am not in the story! Her brilliant characterization of Daniel, Alex and the various other people kept the book realistic. Don't be fooled by the picture on the cover. This book is a thriller, and a pretty decent one at that.

I haven't read any of the other books in this series yet. I found this book at Dollar Tree and decided to give it a shot. It was well worth my dollar. Not quite at the level of Dan Brown or Steve Berry, but I plan to read more of Karen Rose's books for sure.

Shelves: suspense, mystery, library-copy

This is the first Karen Rose book I've read and I wasn't aware that this was part of a series until after I'd started reading it. I'm not too anal in that respect...if I was, I'd never get any books read as my library never as enough copies of anything, or doesn't even complete a series it starts.

Wow! This was my first read by Karen Rose, and as soon as I finished, I went searching my shelves and boxes for more. (I freecycle exchange a lot of books)

Sadly, there are no more for now, but I am really looking forward to reading more. I do love a good thriller when I can't figure out who the bad guy is, and in this one I only guessed right on one. This is the sequel to Die for Me and after getting into this book the previous book came back to my weak and feeble brain. Lucky me- I just checked out the last book in the trilogy from the library so before my brain goes into those lapses I can finish this series. This book has a lot of characters, plots, twists and turns, surprises, and it all comes together for a 'can't put down' book. This book was amazing to me. These are not the type of book's I usually read as a matter of fact they are the total opposite. I find myself drawn into the complicated stories. There are twists and turns that keep you wanting to know what is gonna happen next. Really Bad bad guy's and really Good good guy's. I enjoyed the romance side of this romantic suspense book, despite the fact that it came on very suddenly, but the suspense side was way too complicated for me. There seemed to be about 14 different villains supporting 5 separate evil plots. I couldn’t keep track of who was doing what, and at the end there was a big villain reveal that fell completely flat, because I had no idea who the character was in the story.

On the plus side, it was less graphically gruesome than Rose usually is...more

This is my second Karen Rose novel, and I began listening to it with some resignation because although I found the first one I read okay, it was a little trite and pedestrian. After a bit of a slow start, this one really began to surprised me with excellent portrayals of the horror and violation of rape, kidnapping and murder. Initially the romantic piece was predictable, but as Ms. Rose warmed to her story, the romance became sizzling and romantic as hell. Kudos!

Recommends it for: everyone

I love this book. It took me two reads but after the second one, when I finally had everyone sorted in my head, I fell in love with this book.

However, the only reason I was willing to even try for the second read is because of how much I love Karen Rose. Absolutely and unreservedly. For me, on a scale of intensity with Elizabeth Lowell at 10 and Julie Garwood at 1, Karen Rose ia an 8/9. She's not as intense but she writes characters and stories you fall in love with.
