Bought this when I was on a big Barry Moser kick -- his two-tone illustrations here keep you peering at the negative spaces and feeling like you aren't quite seeing everything, which matches the tone of the text.

A good, creepy poem for Halloween. The illustrations are much more elegant than you see in most spooky children's books, and the backgrounds are beautiful.

The illustrations are stunningly creepy, emphasizing the mood of the poem. The repetitive refrain is good for student participation. (Choice)

Henry Treece (22 December 1911 – 10 June 1966) was a British poet and writer, who worked also as a teacher, and editor. He is perhaps best remembered now as a historical novelist, particularly as a children's historical novelist, although he also wrote some adult historical novels.
