The Premise: This is the blurb: “Chief Counsel Ariadne Corinth has just found out her long-time lover, the powerfully gifted Chief Counsel Kristov Haydn, has died. What a brilliant novella. I loved it. Sci Fi in the nicest way. Makes you think, makes you feel deeply. A story with unexpected turns, and wow, what a beautiful man Kristov is.

I am a fan of The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker. So I was excited to find this. DARK NEST is just a Novella so the themes and characters do not have as much time to be established as in 'STRANGELY BEAUTIFUL', but Ms Hieber brings her same gift for atmospheric yet gritty fantasy to bear in this short adventure in space. The setting shows a common affinity for the gothic in both books. But, beside that, the radically different setting shows versatility.

Well-developed short SF novella with strong characters and a plausible plot. She takes the human fear of those who are different and creates a "what if" story.

This was a great sci-fi novella, even though I'm not a fan of the genre, and I wish it had been longer!

Let me start by saying I am not a fan of YA fiction. However, this was not a bad read. It was engaging and pretty fast moving. For being a novella, the characters were pretty well flushed out and distinct. I honestly wish there had been more development of some of the secondary characters. I think it would have been a very good full length novel.
