I've seen a lot of books written about design firms, but few are better than tellmewhy, written about the small rag-tag design firm of KarlssonWilker. The book mixes a hilarious commentary documenting the history of the company, along with their design work from every step of the way. In many ways, their brilliantly irreverant work seems to have taken the torch from Tibor Kalman. Recommended.
Not so much for writing.. not so much for the design.. but simply the story of starting a design business, written in a narrative way, but actually drawing from real life. It's not a how-to book. More of a monograph, but detailing the first 24 months of a studio and the realization that the toughest part is not doing good work, but getting good work.
