I remember getting this because I wanted something for Julia to relate her feelings of anger to. I wanted her to see that everyone gets mad and the correct and incorrect way to deal with her anger, etc.
A lot of things make Little Critter mad during the course of the story. He can't keep frogs in the bathtub and he can't decorate the outside of the house with his paints. He wasn't even allowed to tickle the goldfish. (Beware of this part if you own a goldfish - you may end up with a toddle More...

Every now and then our family is busy and children get bored alone. They are not allowed to do certain things and they get frustrated and upset. This book enables children to understand that it is alright to feel angry sometimes when things do not happen the way they would like them too. It helps them realize that family members have other important tasks to do too. Too many rules can be overwhelming for children and may upset them. It is a good book to teach children about emotions and feelings More...

We have this book at the Early Learning Centre where I work, and the children just love it. We read it every once in a while when we have children who are feeling very angry or frustrated about things, and it usually gets some smiles. The other great thing about this book is that it opens the door for the children to share their feelings, one small prompt of "Have you ever felt so Mad?" and they all want to share. :0)

Little critter is angry because his parents tell him " More...

Little Critter becomes very upset because his mom won’t let him do all of the things he wants to do.

This has always been one of my favorite children’s books. I always got so upset when my mom wouldn’t let me do the things I wanted to do, and would even threaten to run away, which is why I think I loved the book as much as I did. Little Critter is like many children out there, thinking their life is so hard, because they can’t put frogs in the bath tub or things like that. I think More...

we love little critter at my house. This is by far one of my favorites. I think everyone can relate to little critter being SO mad because at some point they too were SO mad. My favorite part is that when I read it to my son, he laughs at little critters actions (painting the house is his favorite) because he thinks that sure is silly. He is also learning examples of exceptable behavior as we talk about those same actions, can we practice juggling (yes) with eggs, no because they break and make More...

Summary:Mercer Mayer's very popular Little Critter stars in a picture book about feeling angry. With minimal text and funny illustrations to spell out every new situation, the book shows the Critter family saying no to everything Little Critter wants to do. He can't keep frogs in the tub. He can't help paint the house. Finally, mad at the world, Little Critter announces he will run away. When pals come by and ask him to come and play baseball, our young hero's mood quickly changes. He grabs his More...

Next to "Where the Wild Things Are," the Mercer Mayer Little Critter books were my son's favorite bedtime reading when he was little. I probably read this one and other Mayer books to him a hundred times. Personally, these were also my favorites to read to him. I'm going to include reviews on those that I particularly remember.

This is very close to my absolute favorite of the Little Critter books. Little Critter wants to do lots of things he can't do but finally finds on

i had this book when i was little and loved it when i first learned to read because it was easy to read. Now as an adult reading it to my son, i love it because it's quick so his attention span can handle it, and i think it's so funny! I love that he wants to tickle his goldfish and his mom wont let him, and that the mouse in the background in these books is always doing something funny. I need to get all of the little critter books.
(my review is officially longer than the book!)

6.) I Was So Mad by Mercer Mayer
Mayer, M. (1983) I was so mad. New York, NY: Golden Books Publishing company.
Illustrated by N/A
Summary: This book is about a little boy that keeps getting told no. Every young child can relate to this story. The story is silly and exciting. I would use this story in the classroom to teach students that they cannot always be told yes.

I believe this book is good to read to children who are either having a bad day or just mad. It will help them understand the task at hand and that getting mad is not always a solution. This book is short and sweet and to the point. The child realizes at the end of the book that getting mad is not always the best solution.

I love the repetitive nature of the Mercer Mayer books. I also like the predictions that preschoolers can make and that they can identify with the feelings addressed in this book. The "m" sound occurs in the initial postion of words 15 times in this book. Happy reading!

I would use this book to talk about when you get mad. I would definitely use the book to explain about rules. The parents never explain to the boy why he is not allowed to do these things. It may seem obvious to us adults, but perhaps not to the children.

The first time I read this Jake was about 3 years old. I felt as if this book was written just for him. It has always been a favorite ever since. If I ever need to put a big smile on my face I will read it, or any of the Mercer Mayer books.

I have most of Mercer Mayer's books in my home library. It was hard to pick just one to review, but this is a classic. I love to read it to my kids, and it opens up ideas so you can discuss emotions and anger during a happy time.

This is a cute book to read to younger students. Little critter is very upset becaus it seems that his parents say "NO" to everything he does. I believe that students will be able to relate to this subject matter.

Great book to read to students. This book is something that I would read in the beginning of the year. This book could give solutions to the students that suffer with anger control.

Love this, since kids can't do this or that and get so mad but realized I'll get mad another day once it was time to play!
