Wow, even I'm surprised that I'm rating a Doctor Who book this low. Sure, they're never great literature, but they're usually fun enough for what they are. This one, though... hmmm.
It starts out all fine and good, but then I started noticing something. The Doctor isn't in this book. Oh, he's there on the page (occasionally), opening doors and pointing out plot points that have become rather obvious. But he either isn't present or his presence is so insignificant that he might as well More...

In spite of Judgement of the Judoon featuring a return appearance by one of my favorite returning aliens from the new television series, I found the novel to be hard going and ultimately quite unrewarding. Though the adventure's set up was fun, particularly the 'buddy cop' dynamic of the sequences in which the Doctor works with the Judoon leader to try to save the day, it was let down by its simplicity and predictability.
Much of the novel seems to be building up to a couple of 'shock' More...

First off, I need to qualify that, while I gave this book a 5 star rating, it is 5 stars for a Doctor Who book, not as a work on it's own; I measure the Doctor Who adventures on a scale amongst themselves, rather than in comparison to other works. That being said, I enjoyed this adventure immensely. The premise of the Doctor and a Judoon commander working together was novel, and it allowed me to see the Judoon in a new light. There is a very strong message of "don't judge by appearances"

This book sees the Doctor teaming up with teenage sleuth Nikki Jupiter, and a Judoon commander, as they unravel a complex web of crime centered around the Elvis the King spaceport on New Memphis. So, yes, I gather this is a bit of a stealth Doctor Who/Veronica Mars crossover. (Reminding me yet again that I really ought to bump Veronica Mars up my Netflix queue.)

I had hoped that this particular New Series Adventure would be an enjoyable one, as it re-introduced the enjoyable character of the Judoon, however, the they were rarely seen in the story, and the only continued Judoon character had a sense of humour that felt wrongly fitted when compared to how they are portrayed in the television show. Despite this, the typical investigative styling of the story offered something different to the Doctor Who genre. The characters were simple and not entirely me

Colin Brake's Judgement of the Judoon starts a cycle of the 10th Doctor books in which each novel focuses on a popular alien race. It's a cheeky tale that teams the Doctor up with both Veronica Mars (or rather teen private detective Nikki Jupiter who works at her father's agency... pretty obvious) and a Judoon commander with a sense of humor. It's a cheeky and rather entertaining noir crime thriller that's fun, though its twists are perhaps not that hard to devine. Still, the trio of starring ch

I really wanted to give this book more stars than two, because Nicholas Briggs does a stellar job as a narrator, I like the Tenth Doctor travelling alone, and the idea of the Doctor teaming up with a Judoon who has a sense of humour appeals to me greatly (he makes one of the worst puns I've ever heard, thus cementing himself as awesome in my heart forever). However, I could not get over the fact that the Doctor's second one-off companion in this adventure, the seventeen-year-old private detectiv

I wasn't too excited about reading this. I bought a batch of Tenth Doctor novels and this was the least appealing based on the description. But I liked it well enough. Nikki was a bit much with her martial arts and computer skills at the age of 17. They should've made her a humanoid alien and it'd be more credible. I liked that the Doctor was dealing with an everyday-type problem rather than a threat to an entire race or planet or the universe.

Skip this one. I can't call it the "worst" Doctor Who novel...but it's easily the most uninteresting & juvenille story in recent memory. Still, kids who are fans of the Judoon will no doubt gobble it up.
I'm beginning to wonder if Colin Brake can or will ever write a Doctor Who novel I can enjoy. Some people like his work, but he's simply beyond me. Why can't they give Terrance Dicks a go at a full length new series novel?

Another Ten-on-his-own Who novel, this time featuring a feud between crime lords on a spaceport, a petty thief recognisable by his skin colour, a seventeen-year-old girl detective (whose name is Nikki rather than Mary Sue), and on the plus side a Judoon commander who is actually allowed to develop a character. Rather minor stuff, frankly.

I still don't think that i'm a big fan of the 'official' fan fiction thing. I can see the appeal, and I enjoy some of them, mostly fanfiction of characters originally in books, but it wasn't great. And because it was David Tennant I kept hearing the doctor with a scottish accent. Oh, and there isn't enough description because it assumes most people will know enough based on the shows.

Quick and enjoyable read. Once I got started I couldn't put it down and finished it in a night. Made me look a the Judoon in a whole other way. Seeing the Doctor without a regular companion did make it a little sad though.

Dr. Who meets intrepid 17 year old blond girl private investigator Veronica Mars, uh....I mean Nikki Jupiter. Actually a rather nice vaguely disguised crossover universe story with some insider geek jokes. "Open Channel D", indeed!

The Doctor and a Judoon go detecting. It has some fun moments, but goes into description of the world a bit much and doesn't have enough Doctor in it.

A tale which held my interest. Nicholas Briggs is a good reader, particularly as he voices Daleks, Cybermen and Judoon in the TV series. Quite a departure to have a creature quite so alien as a companion and I guess you could say it is character development par excellence.

Did end up gaining momentum. I think I wasn't really taking in the story in the early pages and got a little confused in certain areas for not paying attention. But it was a good read. Not taxing but was fun.

The Doctor, with the help of Judoon Commander Rok Ma and teen detective Nikki Jupiter, is searching for the Invisible Assassin on the Elvis the King Spacesport...full of twists and turns, and a little foreshadowing at the end. This is a satisfying read for any Doctor Who fan!

Good Doctor Who novel, almost a whodoneit of sorts. Not great, but good.

A funny and very entertaining audiobook. The Judoon cracking jokes definitely makes this a worthwhile read!

This was a pretty good Doctor Who book. It was nice to see a story about the Judoon since most of the time they just come trampling in, wreak everything, then leave. And although there was some of that, it showed other sides to them as well.
It took a while to read, but all in all it was pretty good.

Features the 10th Doctor post Donna. A trip to the Elvis the King spaceport at New Memphis involves the Doctor in a war between two crime lords.
Nice and easy to read, good characterisations, and interesting plot.

Not one of the better Doctor Who books. The story didn't have much of the Doctor in it. Seemed to always center around the other characters, and the Doctor was just given a few comments.
