Okay, I'm a huge Galdone fan...but that being said, this book was an absolute riot of fun as a readaloud to the family. Classic Grimm tale about elves who visit in the night and make shoes for a shoemaker has a fun twist when his wife makes them some clothing!

I received this as a gift from my first grade teacher, and still make a habit of reading it periodically for nostalgic reasons. I think it is a wonderful book for young children to read!

Nice adaptation of the classic tale. A poor shoemaker is secretly helped by magical elves when he sleeps. They make beautiful shoes that the shoemaker sells for a lot of money.
