While there was nothing particularly new in Labrie's insights on the subject, it seemed a thorough overview of some of the leading figures in American Catholic fiction and poetry. I especially enjoyed the chapter on Orestes Brownson, whom I had read in college History classes, but haven't touched since--that must be remedied!
