That hot guy tied to Lissianna Argeneau's bed? He's not dessert—he's the main course!

Lissianna has been spending her centuries pining for Mr. Right, not just a quick snack, and this sexy guy she finds in her bed looks like he might be a candidate. But there's another, more pressing issue: her tendency to faint at the sight of blood . . . an especially annoying quirk for a...more

Jul 26, 2012 Junebug rated it 1 of 5 stars Recommends it for: Anyone who wants their brains to turn to mush.
PROS:
→ A few solid ideas (like the anemia thing in the beginning).
→ Great opening.

CONS:
→ Cringe-worthy writing.
→ Hasn't been proofread/edited enough; too many grammatical errors.
→ Terrible at foreshadowing; Chekhov's gun much?
→ There were times when the thesaurus was abused and times when the thesaurus wasn't used enough.
→ Very little "showing" and too much "telling".
→ After page 13, the story dipped.
→ Poor character development; male protagonist is a moron.
→ Far too many useless minor charact...more

This story is marketed as being funny, light and cute. I prefer my PNR books to be on the dark and dangerous side, but I needed to read a "Q" book to finish the RRRC's A-Z Book Challenge and A Quick Bite was the only one I had on my TBR - for years, I might add - so I decided to finally give it a chance.

Lissianna Argeneau is a 202-year-old vampire who happens to be, gasp!, hemaphobic. That's not a good thing considering what she is. Concerned about her future, her mother Marguerite decides to gi...more

Loved this one. I have so many new series to read cos of developing a love for yet another romance genre, but I have to say this will be one of my favourite series if they are all the same as this.

It was a light refreshing read, with none of the 'usual' formula romance angst etc. Unlike other reviewers, I liked the concept of the vamps coming from Atlantis. I am completely new to this genre and it's all fantasy/paranormal/romance to me anyway, so if the book is entertaining and keeps me reading...more

Seems like I never enjoy these as much as I think I will; I keep hoping for another The Accidental Vampire but no luck so far.

This started out pretty well, with psychologist Greg being kidnapped to be vampire Lissianna's "birthday gift" from her mom. Sands sacrifices character authenticity/plausibility to maintain a frothy, light feeling--Greg is way too mellow about being tied to the bed against his will, over and over again--but I was interested in the story. It all kind of petered out though,...more

What a fun read!

Lissi is a vampire with a strange condition, she faints at the sight of blood. This means that Lissi has to feed the old-fashioned way, "off the hoof," or straight from mortals, instead of feeding off bags of blood from the blood bank like good vampires are supposed to! So, for her birthday, her mom "kidnaps" a psychologist to cure her of her condition. When Lissianna sees Greg tied up on her bed, she things he might be a birthday present of the snacking kind and hilarious hijin...more

This was a sweet little vampire read. A little different than any I've read before. Definitely a light and mildly amusing story, with a touching romance to keep you guessing just how this story would end.

The Argeneau's, are a very close knit Canadian family of vampires that huddle around each other worrying and caring for each other. The story starts out as the family is celebrating the two hundred and second birthday of Lissianna Argeneau. She is one of the younger siblings of the group, and s...more

Lissianna Argeneau is a vampire with a problem. Every time she sees blood she faints. She has to feed "the old ways" by biting her victim and afterwards make him forget he ever saw her. But vampire council has decided to protect their race from discovery and feeding is only allowed with blood of special blood banks (execpt for emergency situations). Lissi´s familiy is very concerned about her hemaphobia and wants to help her. On her birthday her mother has the great idea to kidnap Dr. Greg Hewit...more

When I first added this book to my shelves I thought, sure, give it a go - it looks funny, cute, original; maybe even thrilling.

I'd be happy to put a check to funny, to cute too; but as for it being original and thrilling... well, not so much.

The first book of the Argeneau series struck me as light, humourous, sweet, but not all that captivating. I'd say you should give it a go if you're after something relaxing, but if you want something thrilling, I'd recommend you leave it for another time.

Lynsay Sands is a great author and I think that's why she can get away with a book like this. 60% of the book is introduction to the characters that will get their own books. I know it is hard to introduce your own fantasy world but putting 15 family members in this book was way too much for me, aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings, one big happy vampire family.

I was extremely disappointed that the hero/heroine got very few minutes together without the family constantly interfering, I mean they walk...more

In author Lynsay Sands first Argeneau book we meet Lissianna Argeneau and Dr. Gregory Hewitt

Lissianna is a vampire, well, kind of—she drinks blood but she also faints at the sight of it, making needing blood and getting it more tedious for her to say the least, unlike for other vampires now-a-day’s who do not bite people unless it is an emergency. This year for her birthday her mother has decided that she needs cured and so she gets her one—a psychologist that deals with phobias.

Dr. Gregory Hewi...more

It was fun, light, juvenile and funny.
I was a little let down having just read about bad-ass warrior vampires to reading about a hemophobic vampire. Lissi has hemophobia, the fear of blood. She faints that the sight of blood! It's ridiculous but strangely endearing.

The story is romantic and fluffy, with a little intrigue and conflict thrown in there. There were a lot of lol-worthy moments, with the story itself, with some of the ideas and with parts of the writing. The characters were cute but...more

I found the first half a little slow, but when the story picked up in pace, I got sucked into the book. I like the idea of nanos and they're from Atlantis. Interesting! The romance was great and the overall story was unique. I found it difficult to put down at times. I must say that all along, I wondered about the priest. The clues were there! I liked Gregg and Lissi. They make a great couple. I like Thomas, too. I'm looking forward to reading the others!

*giggle* I thought this was a great book!

I thought the vampire aspect, the way Sands wrote it, was definitely original. I'd never heard it explained like that and I thought it was a great twist.

The characters seemed real, especially the family part of it. LOL, I could see my dad's side of the family doing just what the Argeneau family does.

I thought Lissi was a great character. Strong in her own right, she has a head on her shoulders, and I'm equally glad that she fell in love with 'the doctor'...more

A great first book! I love the idea of a 200 year old vampire who faints at the site of blood - falling in love with the psychologist her mother brings home to cure her.

An interesting take on Vampires in general in this series. Very original with coming up with the origins of Vampires. The plot was a little bit light - but I almost prefered it to be simple since there was so much to set up in the novel.

I wish the second book (Love Bites - which is apparently a prequel) was not out of print. It...more

Dr. Greg Hewitt is wrapping things up at work at his psychology practice on the last night before his first real vacation in years! As he is thinking of sand and sun and the things he will enjoy during his trip to Cancun, he notices a woman getting on the elevator with him as he’s leaving the office. He was surprised when she gets off at the same garage level as he does, but wasn’t that concerned about it. But he can’t understand what has c...more

love this book! im a huge vamp fiction fan and i esp love anything that has a fresh outlook on it- like origin of them being from atlantis. before i get to my review i wanted to play devils advocate on some of the negative comments. first of all this is a quick read paranormal romance yes its a tad cheesy if you dont like that dont read them. second any grammatical errors are more on the editor than the author as that is their entire job. the complaints about the peripheral characters are valid...more

Lynsay Sands' first novel in the Argeneau series crafts a unique world of belly laughs and memorable (not to mention loveable) characters for the reader to enjoy.

Synopsis: Lissianna is a normal young woman looking for love without much luck...except for two things: 1) She's a vampire, and 2) she's afraid of blood. Unlike most modern vampires, Lissianna has to feed "naturally" rather than from blood bags. That is until her mother brings her a "present" which she thinks will fix all of Lissianna's...more

A Quick Bite was a pretty harmless, plotless and ridiculous book but enjoyed it all the same. I particularly liked the slow pace in the beginning, there was enough time to thoroughly introduce the characters before any real romance took place. On some occasions the slowness got tedious though, we got the point 10 pages ago. Or like in the case of the bad guy, some 200 pages ago.

What I was very surprised to like was the power dynamics of Lissianna and Greg. Usually it's the guy who is the macho v...more

No spoilers...

It's not often that I purchase a book because of a bad review, but that's what happened with this book. Yes, I bought it because of a bad review.

Why? Well, I'm a writer, not yet author, and I like to research. It's one aspect of writing that I really enjoy.

The review itself was concise, and very well written. Being able to hold up such a well written review against a book would provide me with a mine of information... Or so I thought. It just goes to show that there are a variety...more

The perfect combination of humor, romance and action. This book literally had me laughing out loud on several occasions. It was quite comical and ironic that a vampire would faint at the sight of blood but this just added more fiber or in other words; more of a unique essence to the story. The author definitely presented a unique theory about the creation of vampires, one that was refreshing as it leaned on a scientific origin.
The main characters Greg and Lissa totally hit it off from the momen...more

Greg Hewitt, on his way out of work and heading for his first holiday in years, walks over to a strange car, puts his bag in the boot and then climbs in and shuts the lid on himself.....

Why? Because he is being controlled by a vampire of course. And not just any vampire but an overprotective mum that wants this psychologist to cure her 200 yo daughters blood phobia. Yes- a vampire that faints at the sight of blood, not so good for business!

This book is a romance, there is very little action invo...more

I couldn't even finish this book it was so boring page after page of Blah blah blah blah. never in my days of reading Paranormal romance novels have I ever read a novel with such gutless,Back boneless leads ughhh...200 year old vampires who act like their 16 a vampire who faints at the sight of blood but has no problem sinking her fangs into someones neck, a vampire whose whole life is in jeopardy unless she can overcome her phobia *que the violins* oh but wait all she has to do is close her eye...more

Age 200 Going on Twelve:

This was the most painful thing I've read in a while. Though the premise is interesting and the Partridge Family-esque nest of vampires a refreshing change from the broody loner stereotype, I had to force myself to finish the book. "A Quick Bite" is full of plodding exposition and 2-D characters who conveniently miss or ignore cues in order to move the simple plot towards its conclusion.

So little happens during the course of the book that the author fills the pages with...more
Fangs for the Fantasy
A Quick Bite is the first book in the Argeneau series. I accidentally read Love Bites, the first book in the series first. A Quick Bite is yet another paranormal romance, and so this means the usual boy meets girl and zmog they're in love forever and ever routine. As I have stated many times, I am not a fan of paranormal romance, but I was willing to give this book a try after enjoying Love Bites for its humor.

The plot really is quite basic. Lissianna, a 202 year old vampire meets Greg after her...more

I absolutely love vampire interrupted... I am currently reading it now. This is my second or third time reading it. Everytime I finish the book, I start over reading it again. I have not read the other books yet. But Id say since I love this one, I will love the others also.
Future Slayer Girl (aka: kitten)
I never thought in a million years that I would call a vampire story, delightful. Well, this book was truly a delight to read. I found it light, exciting, with a sprinkle of sexy through it, and I really liked all the characters in it. I have to admit because of the pacing of the book, it took me a bit longer to get through. It was almost like a break read for me. Even the tense part didn’t come half as close to the tense scenes in the BDB, IAD, or LOTU series. Those are page turners at their fi...more
