My copy is actually not this edition but The Cranford Chronicles, a collection which includes Mr. Harrison's Confessions, Cranford, and My Lady Ludlow. I prefer to list them individually as I read them. Have previously read Cranford more than once but became aware of my Lady Ludlow and Mr. Harrison's Confessions after watching the BBC production of The Cranford Chronicles.

It was good but this work is not one of great depth- made me long for the intricacies of Austen. Cute, short read. Gaskell had great ideas and could have taken them further if she wanted to here. Very interesting that the main character/narrator is man, I thought, being written by a woman in the 1800's.
I got this after watching the new Cranford series on PBS. That series combined elements of Cranford, Lady Ludlow and Mr. Harrison's Confessions. This novella is fairly light-hearted as it tells of Mr. Harrisons trials and tribulations among the ladies of the village.
A book recommended in the book "The Gentle Art of Domesticity".
Funny in its situations and facinating because it was written in the 1800's. I plan on reading many more of Elizabeth Gaskell's books!

I loved it! The intrigue, romance and just the daily life of the village fascinate me. If you liked the BBC series Cranford, then definitely read this.
Five stars. Mr. Harrison's confessions is a delightfully amusing read.
Young doctor's tale of

Was a bit funny.
I wanted to read this novella after watching the wonderful 'Cranford Chronicles' TV series, which wove together three different books by Gaskell. I'd already read 'Cranford' and 'Lady Ludlow', but today managed to get hold of and read this one. I liked it very much - it's a bit lighter and more comic than the version of this story in the TV film, and a very quick read. (I actually read it in the 'Cranford Chronicles' Vintage edition which also includes the other two books.)
short, but very readable and funny

Recommends it for:
fans of Jane Austen or other works by Elizabeth Gaskell
Lovely little book, though the whole romance isn't very fleshed out. I printed it off the Internet; it's sad that old books without the fame that authors such as Austen garnered are mostly forgotten. That's why we have the BBC. :P

I thought it was better done in the Cranford miniseries.
