Overcome by the beauty of his daughter, King Antiochus rapes her. Afterward she tries to hide the drops of blood from her nurse. The rape spoils Apollonius's chance of marrying the beautiful girl; later, he succeeds in marrying another princess, but she dies in childbirth and his daughter is sold into prostitution. The whole thing ends happily, though, when the family is reunited. A fun read! This 5th-century Latin novella became famous throughout the ages, and its story was used by Shakespeare ...more
